Help me jazz up my tenant's apartment!
Comments (36)Hi, I'm a Realtor, been going into other people's houses for a number of years, did a bit of property management, & here's what I've learned: Warm tones go with warm tones, & cool with cool. Bright white goes through periods when everybody wants it, & then after they've cleaned it for a year or so, nobody wants it! Plus, if a white is too "clean", it'll make furnishings look dingy. It's a cool-to-cold color, not inviting at all. (Think laboratories.) Warm colors are more inviting & they'll harmonize with the warm golden & brown wood floors. The medium-light warm neutrals will go with most people's stuff, & they'll go with the floors. The kitchen has the potential to be very charming. You might get some ideas by searching for images of kitchens in the 1900's or the 1940's... but there again, warm neutrals will probably be better for a rental. If the budget will stretch to new kitchen flooring, you might get rid of that cold-looking gray & replace it with a good grade of vinyl (Congoleum used to have a product that will outlast us all) in a warm color & a "vintage" pattern, or even install those linoleum squares like you see in school cafeterias. They would look appropriate for the age of the building, you can move the fridge without tearing the flooring, & that stuff lasts forever....See MoreHELP... I had a fire in my garage and need to gut my apartment!
Comments (3)First find out what started the fire and make sure you don't repeat that mistake. Like the idea of swapping a fireplace for a patio door. It is entirely possible -- even likely -- that building codes have changed in some ways since the original building was constructed. Hiring local pros, beginning with an architect, that knows what is and is not permitted is the best way to avoid expensive mistakes....See MoreRemodelled 18th century apartment, furniture tips needed please!
Comments (30)Last night I was thinking about adding some gold mirrors just like that one in the pic when I stumbled across this seemingly amazing and huge antique store right close by, they import antiques and various items from all over europe so thats Saturday sorted! http://www.oldeurope.ee/en I thought some other small gold accents might work too in the living area, like a little small side table or table lamp but the chandeliers are silver...I'm a little concerned about mixing metals. Need to do some research before I attempt that! My partner has his eye on a pretty stylish leather recliner, much the same cognac colour as that pouffe in the picture, so thats reassuring to think that should actually work with the green couch too :D...See Morenew apartment design help needed
Comments (3)It's nice that you tried to create a floor plan and gave dimensions. However, the kitchen area you are asking for help with doesn't match up with the photos you provided. You say there is only 31" of floor space between the cabinets and the wall, but I can see at least 50". I'm guessing you measured the space between the refrigerator and the wall? Unless there are cabinets that I can't see on the wall opposite the sink area, you have room for a 30" square 2-person table with chairs right there. If you want a table for more people it should move into the living room, because dining tables start at about 36" wide by 60" long, although you can find drop-leaf tables that take up slightly less room. There might also be space for storage across from the range. Wire shelving is great for pantry items, freeing up counter space and allowing more cabinet space for dishware and cookware....See Moreolahe97
