Macys usually has a nice selection with last years dresses marked down more than generously. But this isn't really prom season so it 3cf ould present a problem.

I agree, Macys is a good place for dresses. Ross too, but not sure if they would have prom type dresses. I don't blame you for shopping early. Last minute panicky shopping is miserable.

Dillards and JCPenney usually have a great selection.

It is homecoming time tho and girls now seem to wear pretty formal dresses for that, at least around here. There have been a bunch for sale recently on the local yardsale web site, you might look to see if you have one locally.

I was going to suggest thrift stores, Goodwill, etc. I see fancy long dresses in them all the time. Of course, you must be sensitive to a girl's desire for a "new" dress. If fitting in with high school social life means buying a brand new outfit, that is important.

As for on-line sources, I have no idea -- so I'd start with Amazon!

Nordstrom.com. You can search by size, length, price, etc. Just make sure it is in stock before you order because they are bad about getting non-stocked orders in on time. She could also visit a Nordstrom store. The sales people are usually very helpful.

If she lives close to a nice shopping area, I think getting a good fit and look involves trying on dresses. California has large metro and suburban areas, but also quite isolated rural areas. Give us an idea of the general area where she lives. I found dresses for DD at department stores here in southern California and also at teen type shops.

It seems to me that by the time prom rolls around your daughter may have a different idea about what she wants to wear. Friends tend to influence teenagers' ideas about what is cool. Maybe this could just be reconnaissance work in anticipation of the big dance.

This is Homecoming Dance season, so I would guess the stores will be picked over. Then they build up their supply for the New Year and holiday parties, and in the spring they restock with new lines and old for prom season.
