Ashley's Senior Prom

Tonight's the night, and Ashley's senior year is nearly over. This will be a month of awards ceremonies, graduation rehearsals, senior trips, but tonight was her last high school dance, Senior Prom. It is being held at a local Country Club, with dinner before the dance.

I loved her dress this year, it's isn't floor length but it reminds me of woodland fairies and gardens:

She got her hair done, the stylist called it "Hollywood Hair", Ashley says it reminds her of old movie stars. Here's Ashley, giving her date a kiss. Oh wait, that's the ever loyal WonderWeiner, who probably loves her more than any guy could anyway:

She had some friends over to "help" get ready. This is her friend Anastasia, they're doing nails....wait, that's my bedroom carpet!! They'd better be careful.

And so, my participation in the last high school dance is history. But wait, there's always Makayla....

She looks beautiful! Her dress is beautiful! Love the "Hollywood Hair!" I bet she's having a grand time at the ball, your princess Ashley! and I love the picture of Ashley and her boyfriend. Why do the tiny girls get the tall guys?

That is such a shame, so sorry for your loss there Dave. Quite a few factors have to be taken into consideration when rating a rose for cold hardiness and also disease resistance, is it on its own roots, or grafted? How old is the plant? Did you have extremely cold temps with snow or without snow? Was it exposed to alot of rain and/or wind? How deep was it planted? Did you prune it last year or the year before? And these are just a few ??'s that you have to ask yourself, and not just you Dave but everyone that grows roses. Now for disease resistance..... What zone do you live in? What state do you live in? What is your weather like in the summer...do you get high humidity or low? Do you get alot of rain....and would that be in the morning or at night? How old is the plant? Is it planted near a wall or fence? Does it have good air circulation around it? Are you feeding it regularly and watering it this much but not too much? What kind of soil do you have....have you had it tested? Is it on its own roots or grafted? Now I am sure there are more questions that anyone can add to these that I've posted. But the bottom line is that these questions should be taken into consideration by rose producers and hybridizers before they put them out on the market and in magazines with fancy pictures and "false promise" advertising. Or you could grow your own.....

Annie, let me tell you, this graduation certainly wasn't a 'field of dreams' - the ground was totally saturated (we've had rain, rain and more rain for the last 2 weeks). The poor girls that wore dresses with heels had to walk on their tip toes across the field, so they didn't sink & get stuck. Nicole wore flip flops and her feet were covered with mud! On an upnote, an English teacher that Nicole has known for the last 4 years and simply adores was among the teachers in the line-up ~ Nicole was so happy to be able give her a last big hug and a thank you! So Annie, I guess our babies are on to bigger & better!

Lee, DD is quite comfortable & outspoken regarding her hearing issues, so I don't mind sharing at all (but I think it might be a good idea to remove her picture). Long story short, after several minor surgeries and continuing progressive hearing loss, DD's ENT did an exploratory - inner ears were a mess. The ENT referred us to a wonderful DR at MA Eye & Ear, who after a second exploratory, performed a Tympanomastoidectomy & reconstruction of her inner & middle ear. It consisted of removing a mastoid from a nerve, replacing part of the inner ear bones with prosthetics, reforming the ear canal and reconstructing her ear drum. She is slated sometime this upcoming year for another surgery on her other ear (although hopefully not as intensive). If I remember correctly, by the time her current Dr. got ahold of her, she had lost all, but in a slim range of hearing in one ear and 30% in the other. I had requested speech therapy during her early school years, so thank goodness her speech wasn't affected. As to her career in music production/enginneering, as you know, in addition to higher math skills, range of sound recognition, is first & foremost. She is slated to see her Dr. next month, we will discuss the feasibility of this career and see where her hearing is at (although at last visit, she could hear high/low tones and nuances better than normal, in her now good ear). Life is funny. Mari, thank you very much! Paige ~ great looking cake, I like the way the red looks almost airbrushed (is it?)! Shaking my head @ the cake being dumped - I don't know if that's sex related or age, I remember my girls & their friends doing those kind of things (deeeep breath). I'm not sure I'm old enough to be a mother of a bride -lol, but I'd love some help when the time comes!!! Sue, thank you and you are more than welcome. Admittedly its been a few years, but we never came remotely close to spending that much - what our school had were Christmas and Spring formals, and graduating seniors still have an 'all night party' not prom/formal. We were adept at borrowing and even MAKING our dresses (sometimes with help), shoes often little dyed to match things that were only worn just a very few times (recycled). I don't think I EVER paid full price for a dress, then switched back and forth with a friend who lived just across state line who wore the same size. No limos, not once. We didn't go for an expensive meal first, we had pizza in our formal gowns after. I don't know when the practice of the high end restaurant meals came into play, long after my own high school days. A few years ago DH and I were splurging on an expensive long weekend resort getaway, and late Saturday afternoon float plane after float plane started landing and docking, teens in tuxes and gowns filling the docks and heading for the 5* restaurant.... Seattle pre proms, they were flying out to the peninsula/islands to eat first. Talk about limos, these kids were renting planes :)

Ashley is just GORGEOUS Annie! I wish they didn't grow so darn fast... My DS is Ashley's age and it seems like just yesterday... well, you know the rest!

What a beautiful daughter you have. Her dress is gorgeous too, as green is my favorite color! You are right, it looks like something a woodland faerie would be dancing around in.

Beverly, you can't make them bigger. I "reduced" them on photobucket so they wouldn't take so long to load for those who have slow dial up connections, just like Jessica taught me.

I can send you the bigger ones, if you'd like them. I sent one of Makayla to San and she said it was 700kb, it was HUGE. LOL Of course, I don't know how to make those any smaller. (sigh)

I use a different program, but someone once metioned this program to resize photos and I think it's free. Most of the photo programs confuse me!

How was the prom? Ashley is so beautiful and has such a warm smile. I really like her 'Hollywood hair' and her dress is lovely. She and her date make a nice couple (is that ok to say?-lol) I'm where you're at, my baby is graduating HS, too (Nicole's prom is May 30th - a Tuesday night, yuck! Her date is a real pisser, too - I can feel my blood pressure going up thinking about him). Big sigh.....

What's Ashley's plans for next year?

Oh how soon they're grown & gone ! Bittersweet time Annie -- makes you long for the days they were crawling around on all fours ( almost ). Hope her future is as bright as her smile .

paulines, they had a lot of fun at the Prom, then they went bowling. I wish I had pictures of that, a dozen girls in formal dresses and bowling shoes. LOL

Ashley's date is all right, a nice enough young man whose family owns a local business. He's 18 though, and doesn't have a job, still has a year of high school left and doesn't plan to go to college. Sigh.

Ashley has been accepted into our local University in the dental program, and has won a couple of scholarships to help with tuition. She wants to be a dentist and fortunately the University is close enough that she can commute so she can live at home and doesn't need to pay for a dormitory or an apartment.

She's an honor student, in the National Honor Society and several service organizations, so she could have gone to any of several larger colleges. Finances dictate that she stay here, though, and she's not opposed to having Mom available to cook and do her laundry anyway.

Goodness, she gets prettier each and every time you post a picture of Ashley! I hope she brushed her teeth before the prom after kissing the wonder weiner :-)

I love her dress and hair - my hair for my senior prom (in 1966!) was actually quite similar, except I had bangs straight across - it was the 60's after all. I loved my hair and my dress and I hope Ashley felt the same way!

Sherry, I don't know when she's getting married. David's sister "surprised" the family with the announcement that she was getting married this summer. That wedding is May 20. David's mother says she can't handle two weddings in one year, it's too "stressful".

Since Amanda doesn't really care whether they get married or not, she just said they'd wait until next year. It's fine with me, I have Ashley's graduation, then her open house, her trip to Costa Rica, and college preparations to make for fall, I have plenty to occupy me this summer (and to spend my money on!)

Annie, she is a beautiful girl. THe charm that comes through in your words just bursts forth in her pictures.

I wore a dress with a "handkerchief" hem I believe when I was a junior. Ashley's is much prettier. Don't guys wear tuxes anymore? not being critical, I just wondered. Heck, I don't want to send Will off to his prom in a tux and have him be the only one - lol.

Love your pictures of Ashley. She's such a beautiful young woman and looked so very pretty for her prom. You must congratulate her for me on all her accomplishments so far. Her dress is very pretty and the hairdo very becoming.

Stacy, here the guys wear tuxes only if they are on the Prom Court or are extremely into clothes, as some guys are now. I don't know when that happened, they wore tuxes when Amanda was in high school.

Of course, our high school had the first "casual" Homecoming Dance in the history of the school too, so maybe it's just here?
