aliceinwonderland, Yes, I know about drinking grape juice. My mother was Italian and when we didn't drink a glass of red wine, we drank grape juice before anything else with our meals. So I have had a great share of delicious grape juice throughout my life. In fact I would have never thought my mother and my father would ever die of disease, because my mother made wonderful, healthy meals, hardly ever going out to eat, and hating fast food. So I know their disease came from other things around them. Since I want to be healthy for my family I try and find bad things to avoid and additional good things to take, to help me with the war against disease. I mainly drink filtered water, green and oolong teas with cinnamon sticks, apple cider with cinnamon sticks, pomegranate and grape juice. But thank you so much for recommending grape juice, for everyone else it is a great juice to take as it is a wonderful antioxidant. Now that I have listed all the things I do drink, maybe we can have some comments on what I truly posted on. I only added a small PS about something good I have started to share, yet the rest of this thread was about the huge dangers of fabric softener. Really are people that bent out of shape with a small suggestion of something good to take. Yet not bent of out shape with the idea that our whole society is brainwashed to put fabric softener in their rinse water? Since I see no way of editing my already posted thread, if someone knows how to get this thread off please do. It actually makes me sick with the way people like to point a finger at what another is doing wrong. Since that has become the main issue here. You know, people need to support one another more, take a look at the "March of the Penguins" movie, do you know how all those penguins survived deaths cold, where no other life has learnt to survive? Well they each take turns blocking the dead cold wind from each others backs. The inner circle of penguins were never told by the outer circle, hey youre getting something were not, because they know, their time will come when they would be in the inner circle getting warmed, and those that were warm would be in the outer circle once again. See our world is just a bunch of fighting seagulls instead; just looking to make sure that the seagull beside them doesnt get the extra scrap of food. It is really really sad, how people can only find the negative to comment about. My true intention was to help bring awareness of a bigger problem as my heart aches with the ignorance of peoples ingestion of poison, and the growing number of deaths among our loved ones. My mother, father-in-law and mother-in-law all passed on within 22 months of each other, all with sudden quick growing cancers, if it can happen to them, it can happen to any of us. It all has to do with the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the things our bodies ingest from the chemicals around us. Things like the huge ongoing use of fabric softener. Yet like I have already posted I just couldnt handle watching the fabric softener going so quickly at work, without trying to say something to someone, and since I knew about this laundry forum I thought of added a thread of friendly warning. Yet I cant believe I have to keep writing a truce about my small PS of a health drink, as I just wanted to include about something good I knew about too. When I went on the thread about Charlies Soap, it was a plug of something good, how come no one is upset that they are making sales because of that. I just dont understand people. fahrenheit - Honestly, I don't think I've happened on any error here at all. After another test, maybe something could be said, but at this point it appears to be a mistake. For the most part all of the cycles are independent of each other. Just because "drain/spin" is a certain length doesn't mean that portion of "exta white" follows the same timing and exact pattern. A good example of this can be seen by looking at the "custom" cycle. crooks101 already noticed that "custom" doesn't use more water if the additional water function is choosen in the firmware (haven't played with the firmware myself, but crooks101 seemed absolutely certain of this). There is one other difference with "custom". It seems like the 1st and 2nd rinse spins (assuming you've choosen a 3rd rinse via "sensitive") are very-very slow spinning, short, low extraction spins even if you choose "max spin" as your spin option. At first I thought I was just seeing the W4840 trying a failed faster spin attempt and then punting by doing a slower spin. The W4840 seems to have an extremely good ability to get a load spinning even if it's somewhat out of balance so this behavior puzzled me. I've done 4 or 5 "custom" loads now and it always acts in this way with the lethargic intermediate spins. Other cycles like "normal" or "extra white" give the clothing a very good spin-out during these spins. I'm feeling some of crooks101 frustration in wondering why Miele programmed it like this. The machine has plenty of delicate options that seem well designed, so it's difficult to understand why "custom" acts like this.

Kathy, You can officially keep using what you were already using. No changes needed if the Kirkland products were cleaning fine in your previous TL. The Kirkland detergents don't have the same quantity of enzymes, etc as something like Tide but they are generally clean rinsing and fine for average dirt laundry. As for OxiClean, as stated before, if you're using liquid detergent, put the OxiClean in the drum to avoid a clump in the dispenser. If you're using all powder in the dispenser, doesn't matter. I'm a mixologist when it comes to laundry detergent. :D But I have the Kirkland products on my shelf. I also have the Kirkland powder. :D I use them all in my Maytag FL (w/ Sanitary cycle).

We use white vinegar instead of liquid fabric softener. Your clothes will NOT smell like vinegar after they are dried. Your towels and jeans will feel lots softer with all the soap cut and rinsed out in the rinse load! I throw in a fabric dryer sheet in loads that I want to keep from being 'staticky" or feel real soft (mostly just knit shirts). I do also wash my dryer screen every month or so just in case the softener has built up on it.
