Sounds like fertilizer burn to me.

Hello caelith, Also make sure that the plant gets plenty of light in winter. A Nepenthes that does not get enough light will stop pitchering or simply fail to produce more pitchers. A 12 hour florescent shop light with 40 watt cool white tubes in a twin mount would provide 6000 lumens for the plant and keep it going well over winter if your windows do not give it long enough photoperiods. You could fertilize it to kick start its pitchering process, but be careful with fertilizer. Only use 1/4 strength or weaker foliar feed... almost any regular fertilizer would do, but the best would be Orchid blood meal that is water soluble. Only use it about once a month until you see pitchers growing in. Just don't get any in the soil. Overfertilizing the leaves could cause leaf burn and damage new pitchers too. Nepenthes often loose lower leaves and move their growth point up, leaving a brown woody vine as they grow longer. Cutting them back can reduce the incidence of mold.

If these are violets: 1. Not flowering for 6-9 months is not necessarily a problem; not flowering for 12 months is a problem. The latter might suggest not getting a cold spell in winter, having too much nitrogen or not enough potassium, preventing the plant from experiencing lengthening days, and too much/deep shade would not help. 2. Sickliness after splitting a crown: How much good root was left on the piece which is poorly? Does the scar where it was split look healthy or it is rotting (with/without woolly fungus)? Has it been overwatered and/or given too rich and poorly-drained compost? Has it been in too much sun since splitting? The behaviour of the leaves suggests the plant has not re-established its sap stream - which can be due to one or more of the aforementioned factors. It might be difficult to save it now, but if it still has some good parts, treat it like a cutting. That is: cut it back to sound stem tissue, cut most leaf blades by about 75% (to reduce fluid loss), dunk in fungicide, plant in open 50/50 sharp-sand/peaty compost and keep in a partially closed container in good light but out of sun. Whether that rescue will succeed depends a lot on the species you have (many far eastern species root fairly well from pieces of root) and on luck!

That could be drought stress or fertilizer burn. skuiiy: We bought the plant with the shown plastic pot and kept it in there since it seemed to be doing well & producing flowers and fruit. A plant from the nursery producing fruit is often doing so because it's stressed. When tomatoes are stressed, they fruit because the plant rushes to reproduce before it dies. So assuming it's happy because it's fruiting could be incorrect. Even if the pot is OK now, it won't be much longer unless that plant is a dwarf or small determinate. skuiiy: -Gave it liquid fertilizer. -Added about a spoonful of epsom salt to the soil/mulch mix it's in and mixed it in a bit. Epsom salt is really only necessary if the plant has a magnesium deficiency. If not, it could cause problems. Also, it's possible you've given the plant too much fertilizer, which can manifest as leaf burn skuiiy: now I'm watering(about 2 cups of tap water, instead of just 1)every other day starting today to see how that goes. First: Pot it in a much larger container. Gently knock off as much of the current potting mix as possible so that almost all of the mix is fresh, as this will help correct the problem if nitrogen burn is the problem. Use a normal, fluffy, well-draining potting mix, not a mix advertised as moisture-retaining, and not anything labeled as "garden soil". Mix water into the mix well before putting it in the pot, as peat-based mixes can initially repel water if they're dry. Second: Don't measure your water or water on a set schedule. To determine when to water, stick your finger down into the mix a couple inches. If it's dry, water and water very deeply, until the water is running freely out of the bottom of the pot. If it's still wet a couple inches down under the surface, hold off. In your climate, when it gets hot, don't be surprised if you have to water daily. As for fertilizer, you can give the plant a dose according to instructions once a week or every two weeks (depends on how frequently you have to water), or you can water at very dilute strength with every watering (dilute more the more frequently you have to water).
