Brick question...extra cuts?

Comments (1)Sareep, I personally do not even understand the need for a seam in the L piece, unless it is a really big piece. I had one single seam in the kitchen and I had a big L shaped piece- the seam was located in the middle of the sink area, barely visible and only from up close. The granite was a beautifully speckled, very fragile Brazilian , but they did a fantastic job setting it on a cement bed and reinforced with a steel mesh. It was flawless work and the result was great. Even without the cement and the steel , they still should be able to give you the minimum amount of seam possible, I would not accept the seam in the L shaped part, and I would definitely raise a BIG stink for the second seam. Absolutely unacceptable, in my opinion. Hope this helps!...See MoreExtra thick quartz or marble countertop question -
Comments (3)Thank you both for all the info! What I'm gathering is that man-made materials (I'm including quartz surfaces in that bunch) are fabricated at a standard thickness, and the edges are glued together to appear more substantial. On natural materials, however, your answer is what I was expecting/hoping for, mnhockeymom - it didn't seem right to glue two marble slabs together! I will work with the stone yards to find the right slab. If anyone has any other materials in interesting thicknesses, I'd love to hear about them / see pics to see how yours came to be. Thank you!!...See MoreIs it common to put extra slabs on hold for countertops?
Comments (3)@User Thanks for the feedback. I think we should be safe with just 1 extra slab. The island will be 1 slab on its own, and then the perimeter is made up of 2 separate runs of countertop that are each shorter than the length of the slabs I’m looking at. So no seems, no angles to match grain, etc. @Nick Whatley Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely make sure I see each and every slab I put on hold....See Morecheri127
