Special features. Two white oak vanities. Italian porcelain countertop and wall and floor tile. Large walk-in glass-enclosed shower with double rain shower heads. Stand-alone tub. Gold-finish plumbing fixtures, lighting and mirror frame.
The designers created a custom stain for the vanity that would complement the tones of the porcelain floors and gold fixtures. “We also wanted the vanity and the stain color to have some farmhouse style to it yet be modern,” designer Amit Sinay says.
The toilet is located in a room to the left of the vanity.

“Uh-oh” moment. “On the original blueprints, the shower was much smaller,” Sinay says. “But right after framing, we started the division of all sections of the bathroom. We literally got down and drew on the floor all exact measurements. We only then saw that we could manipulate the vanity size, and went ahead and made the shower more grand both on the width and the length.”

Designer tip. “Going bold with a classic black-and-white pattern adds drama without overwhelming the space,” designer Jason Bellaire says. “Even a lower-priced bathroom can have the same drama by going bold with a patterned floor.”
“Uh-oh” moment. “Getting the slabs for the shower to the site and having them cut by our tile installer in the client’s garage definitely made us lose some sleep,” Bellaire says. “The slabs were 48 by 96 inches and only a quarter inch thick, so they had to be treated with utmost care.”

Designer: Bob Wetmore of Cornerstone Architects
Location: Dripping Springs, Texas
Size: 334 square feet (31 square meters)
Homeowners’ request. A spacious but still intimate master bathroom. “The open design allows for easy flow between tub, sink and vanity,” says architect Bob Wetmore, who used Houzz ideabooks to collaborate with the homeowners. (The toilet is out of frame.)
Special features. Stained cedar wood beams. Heated travertine flooring. Decorative floor inlay beneath an extra-large claw-foot tub. Antique family heirloom vanity. Antique lighting.
Designer tip. “Incorporating several windows in the design while selecting light colors for the walls and flooring allows for ample natural lighting throughout the space,” Wetmore says.
