Trip to the spa. Facials... to keep the skin puurdy?
Comments (5)Just to let you know, don't have a facial less than a couple of days before you have to be "presentable" for a social event, big work thing, etc., unless you know how your face will react to that specific facial, since many facials can leave your skin looking "worse before it gets better". The only pictures of me at one friend's wedding are from behind because every time I saw a camera I spun around - I was invited to have a facial and mani-pedi the day before with some of the bridesmaids. (I was an "honorary bridesmaid".) The bridesmaids were "glowing", I looked like a ripe tomato! I piled on enough makeup for Tammy Faye to have stopped me to say "honey, you gotta lay off that stuff" :-) and still had people asking where I'd gone on vacation to get that sunburn. Same goes for the sugar or salt scrubs they do all over - when not done carefully you'll look and feel like you've got a nasty sunburn. I'm a total massage hound (I used to be a "practice body" at a couple of massage schools) so I'd be going for as many different types of massage I could get for the amount of the gift certificate. LOL I don't really think there is anything to the health aspects touted but reflexology feels divine, especially if your feet are, shall we say, in less than perfect condition. Sounds like you're already doing what the "deluxe European facial" describes - "cleansing, exfoliating, and hydration of the skin" is a fancy way of saying "washing your face with a scrubby stuff and putting on moisturizer"!...See MoreMy New Year's Resolution - Skin care products
Comments (9)What a fun resolution! I'm a garden/outdoor girl, so my skin is not going to be what it could be. Too much time outside during the last 50+ years. I'm okay with that...but, like you, I did make a decision to take better care of what I do have. I love Estee Lauder, but in the last few years, didn't want to spend the bucks for it. I've committed to Olay...the daily moisturizer with sunscreen and...the hardest to remember...the nightly moisturizer. You'd be surprised how often I forget to wash my face and put on moisturizer before bed. (I'm just now beginning to where makeup again--new business where I deal with people.) I do tell a difference when I use this...I have dry skin and it looks more alive and fresh when I'm faithful. I'd like to add facials once a month, too. Well see how the new business grows......See MoreThe Skin I'm In at age 60
Comments (24)I'm sure you can get fairly good retinol products at the drugstore these days, some better than others. However, I get mine via prescription, and the cost is covered via insurance. Yes, I have to be pre-approved every year, which takes a couple of days, but it's worth it in the long run since I pay maybe a couple of dollars for the name brand stuff. Tried the generic but didn't like it. Too greasy. It would likely depend on your insurance and what it covers whether you'd want to try that route with a dermatologist. There are varying strengths (.025, .05, etc) so most first-time users start with the lowest strength. If your skin is truly that sensitive, I'd probably go easy with the Clarisonic, and also take the advice of your skin care specialist first before investing in one. A lot of people assume they really need to scrub with it using pressure. Not true. It is a gentle rotating motion with the device doing the work. And maybe use it every few days to start, not every day. If the redness from the broken capillaries bothers you, why don't you consider having that addressed first and using it as an entry point to the skin care with your dermatologist for other advice? Most would probably give you a free or reduced-rate consult and demo of their products. And the good ones have samples they are more than happy to give you....See MoreOh, WAAAHHH! Aging Skin Woes
Comments (29)I have had the bruising problem all my life and it seems to be worse when I eat a diet with lots of green veggies. Doctors have found no health problem but I think it is because they think I have hit something and not remembered it. Only time they believed was the one time the doctor helped me down from the table and left fingerprints in my arm. Since cerebral hemorrhages seem to be the way most in my father's family die I believe it must be partially genetic. For bleeding when my husband was on coumadin I carried a product called Bleedstop but there are similar products. It is a dark powder that you sprinkle on the cut and it will help the blood clot quicker. Recently I have only been able to find a pack of three large packages rather than the small plastic box with 3-5 small packages in it. Until your wound heals it can appear as a dark stain on your skin but for me it stops the blood with no need for additional bandaids although if it is in a place like my arm or back of the hand that would rub on the bedding I do place a bandaid over it when going to bed. I have started using it for the normal gardening tears than you get every season....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
