Day 8, My House in August: Living Room
Comments (32)What a fun thread! My mother spent several years pointing out whenever she dropped by that my house is very comfortably arranged for a pair of hermits (yes, we are) but it lacks a seating area that would encourage congregation and conversation. DH and I just smiled and agreed with her. But when an extremely heavy friend planned to visit over a long weekend, I took the comment more seriously and decided a seating area was needed that would accommodate a very large person comfortably. The living room is long (22 ft) and narrow, with a 12-ft window on one long wall and a stacked stone fireplace and large built-in bookcase filling the other. We have to have a place for plants in front of the window (outside of which is a wonderfully private backyard) with enough space there to be able to close the curtains against the strong afternoon sun. Okay, I finally shot my bolt; bought love seats, pillows, and a rug; and probably will never do anything like it again. The guest, darn it all, got sick and will have to visit another time. But DH and my brother both like it (actually, they both expressed an unflattering degree of surprise that they do like it), and now Mom has a comfortable place to sit while she points out what I should do with the rest of the house, beginning with finding more items to display on the top shelf of the bookcase....See MoreDay 15-My House in August: Green
Comments (49)@ Caroline: "...she had the most vile, evil temper to ever be contained in a bird-suit. LOL We all loved her; she hated everyone and everything! She lived a long, healthy, indulged life, too, in spite of herself...." For some reason this is a description I wouldn't mind if someone attributed to me! You know, someone you can't help but want to be around! Anyway, here are my green contributions: My living room chairs - armless, but sooooo comfortable ...and a collage of Parisian items. I've loved lilies of the valley since I was a pre-teen and collected the container, the Lalique perfume bottle, and the Limoges tray on various trips to France. The print is a birthday card from a friend acknowledging my love for all things French (my first college major) and my completely unruly hair....See MoreDay 23 - My House in August: Stripes
Comments (31)Last summer I posted to ask about some chairs for this dining room. They were a total loss, not usable for my family. They are still hanging around and I hope to dispose of them, so far, no one has grabbed them up. Later in the summer, I ran into these, at a store that I normally would not visit and felt these would be the correct choice for us. They are a more heathered look in person. They are big and sturdy, easy to care for....See MoreDay 28 - My House in August: New
Comments (21)I spent this morning repainting some of the wrought iron furniture out on our bedroom portal. Please overlook the partially missing brick flooring, as we're getting ready to do some renovating there. Anyhoo, this furniture was white, while the wrought iron furniture on our back portal off the family room is green. Back portal furniture (off the family room): As you can see one portal from the other, I wanted them to match. Now all the furniture is green, and all the seat cushions and throw pillows coordinate. So, newly painted furniture, new throw pillows for the bench, and a new pot of succulents for the table. Much more still to do, but that's my "New" for today....See Moreaprilneverends
