Day 23 - My House in August: Stripes
Let's see where you have stripes! I remember painting my bathroom in my former home with painters tape with alternating creamy colors, and while it turned out great, I don't think I'd do that again.
Probably the only thing you can see is my striped area rug in front of the sofa. Thought maybe after getting the sofa back, I'd want a new rug, but right now I like that, though it needs a cleaning. We are hosting for an NFL game next month, so I'll get it cleaned closer to that date because as soon as I do, there is usually a nice hairball on it the next day or so. :)
Otherwise, not much in our home with stripes.

The runner on the credenza in our family room. This was hand-woven in Chimayo, New Mexico. Chimayo (chee-my-YO) is known throughout the Southwest for their artist weavers. It looks faded in this pic, but it must be my camera. It's main color is actually a rich reddish brown.
And, finally, my very favorite shirt. And again, the color looks faded here, but it's really a nice, bright white. DD laughs whenever we go shopping together, because for some reason I'm very attracted to pretty much anything with medium blue and white stripes. She calls them "Mom Magnets" (LOL).

Comments (24)aaaaaaahhhh it's gorgeous!!!!! I love all of these so much! I'm very much into vases and all sorts of vessels recently(I think I know why lol)..unfortunately all the bigger ones are nothing to write home about..they're simple glass things from TJ Maxx etc. all that I have and really love and chose myself-are small ceramic things purchased in galleries, art festivals etc..I use them for small succulents and such.. and even these I can't show right now since I don't have any camera:) will have to wait until DS comes home from school.. yours are amazing, I don't know where to start..just beautiful. some pottery, I do recognize.. am afraid to guess wrong the names right now , but I do collect them, albeit virtually and in my dreams..))...See MoreDay 25 - My House in August: Art
Comments (38)We call him "the Green Man" but he isn't really green anymore. He's a woodblock on fabric, done by the Art Professor at the University of Taiwan in the late 60s. Comments (22)My sweetie-pie, Harry, on his fourth birthday with four birthday candles and a numeral candle, too. With Harry, too much was not enough! He always had a "cake," made up of his favorite goods. He always had candles, too. For his 4th, the cake was slices of red and green bell peppers (his favorite ), slivers of cheese (his favorite ), pats of butter (his favorite ), apple slices (his favorite ), and a thin slice of a beef shank soup bone (his favorite ). I don't know why I didn't have broccoli on the plate that year; that was his absolute favorite. I can't remember what the two pale slices are on the front of the plate; I know I did not give him raw bacon, although that would have most definitely been...his favorite ! Comments (38)daki - call Grohe customer service and they will send you replacement buttons for free. I have 2 Grohe Alira (I think that's the model) in the kitchen I'm leaving behind when I move and I've replaced the buttons twice in about 11 years. Outside Playing - Thank you. I wasn't sure about those light fixtures but I'm really happy with them. They are a ribbed prismatic glass and they have a prismatic glass diffuser on the bottom which eliminates the glare from the light bulb. Even when the light is on high - like the one over the kitchen sink it spreads the light evenly. Now after seeing all of these beautiful, finished kitchens I definitely need to work on finding those special little things that make a kitchen feel more like 'home....See More

6 years agoI was also looking for stripes, and realized the only stripes I have are in the process of coming down! I've been in this house for just over a year now, and it's time to tackle the old wall paper in the half bath and pink bathroom. New wallpaper will probably go up in the half bath, but there won't be a border!

I rehung them later on a different rod:
but I never got around to relining them.
We still do have striped cushions on the chairs in the pergola:
This photo was taken in August, but several years ago. We now have a teak table and chairs, but the same bromeliads are blooming now, and we kept these cushions. They are as necessary on the teak chairs, and we keep them in the garage part of the time, like when it rains.

Favorite colorful stripe is on our beach chairs and wicker
Dining chairs: the one on the right came with our Duncan Phyfe dining set. Had the beach vibe but weren't comfy. I bought six of the DP chairs on the left, painted and recovered them. Now we can seat 12!

6 years agoOnly one room has striped, the master bedroom. The summer curtains have a self stripe and the winter curtains white and blue stripes. Guess I'm not a stripey person!

6 years agoI was thinking "man, I really don't care for stripes, and I can't think of any in the house' and then, doh! I walked in the bedroom. This is the light cotton blanket that stays on our bed year-round. (I adore these particular stripes).

6 years agoI scoured the house high and low yesterday, but couldn't find any stripes. Then this morning I remembered the little bolster-style cushion I recently made with a couple of fabric remnants - the background fabric is striped, yay!

6 years agoStripiest things in my house -- the living room wing chairs. Both antique and bought three years apart -- I was fortune to be able to get the same fabric for the second one!

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoLast summer I posted to ask about some chairs for this dining room. They were a total loss, not usable for my family. They are still hanging around and I hope to dispose of them, so far, no one has grabbed them up.
Later in the summer, I ran into these, at a store that I normally would not visit and felt these would be the correct choice for us. They are a more heathered look in person. They are big and sturdy, easy to care for.
