I used my $10 off JCP coupon, went online......found 2 cross backed T's/great for Yoga class and Isotoner spa slippers. I found lots of deals, all under $5! Shipping to the store was free.

Comments (24)I have been shopping online for ~10 yrs. The deals in the early days (1998-2001) were crazy. This was back when Amazon only sold books. Anyhow, I started shopping online because I was a single parent and had two small children. So it was a great convenience for me. I have bought almost everything you can online. Buying online now is almost second nature now and probably spend more than 10k a year online. I now buy online because of cost, convenience, availibility. I pay with CC for everything and haven't had any problems for 8 yrs. In the early days, I had people get a hold of my CC numbers and charge stuff. The CC companies took care of everything without much hassle. Technically, I don't know if the info was stolen online or from a local store. I wish the online grocery stores made a comeback. I would love the UPS guy to delivery the kitty liter, rock salt, soda, etc, while I just pick up the perishables. The best deals were probably in the early days with many items free with rebates and promotional codes, mostly computer or electronic items. The biggest amount saved would have to be on the biggest ticket items, furniture, hardwood flooring and other home improvement items, typically saving 20-50%. I copied this from another board- I called Kmart's customer service last night after reading the thread about the double coupons (where had I been????) and asked if my store was included in the double coupons. She said that all stores have now been included. I told her that my store didn't know anything about it (which wasn't entirely true but I wanted to know what the response would be). She told me that they should know by now because of a major issue with it and all stores were now included and the managers should have gotten the numerous emails telling them they are included. She said if I had any problems to have the store call customer service. She also gave me her name as a reference and said she logged my call. Comments (25)Love that diagram, Sophie! I went halfway. I used a small "home services" firm that did the tear out, plumbing, electrical, wall repair, window, and other installations. I planned (with GW help), sourced and bought the cabinets, granite (with installation), hardware, sink, faucet, and light fixtures; decided on (at the last minute) to refinish the floor so found floor people; and did the painting myself. This approach saved me nearly $10k over the quotes from both full service companies that would include plans and contractors who would execute my plan but source and perform all. Note that my remodel was not extensive, was in a smaller space, no change in footprint, just repositioning some appliances which did require moving the gas line and adding a window, lights, outlets and switches. There were delays due to me, about the floor decision and getting that scheduled, and changes in the planned counter material which the home service company was able to work around (thankfully). My only complaint in the end was with the counter granite installer -- who came highly recommended, but didn't do the quality of work that I'd seen here on GW, but who did fix what could be fixed. Comments (36)Yesterday morning, as I got dressed and was putting on my gold chain necklace that I ALWAYS wear, I heard something "clink" on the floor in front of my dressing table. I looked down and there was a tiny piece of gold there. I realized it had come from my gold chain necklace. I went ahead and put on the necklace. BAD decision as last night, I could not remove it - that tiny piece was part of the clasp. So, I slept in my necklace. Today, I took it to a nearby jewelry store. I knew they had their own henchmen there - none of that "we'll have to send this out and it will take 3 weeks stuff". I had not been in this store in 3-4 years and was shocked at how low the inventory was and how pedestrian it also was. It used to have a lot of really beautiful, often unusual fine jewelry. No more. One of the henchmen is the owners son and I asked him about the small inventory. He said they do mainly repairs and re-settings these days - women are no longer buying fine jewelry. I was stunned until I thought for a bit and realized I should not have been surprised. About 10 years ago, I was asked by a woman I knew who owned a small jewelry store that carried lots of high end fine jewelry, to come help her at a small trunk show at out town's most expensive ladies clothing boutique. We sat there for 4 hours and did not sell one single thing!! I told my friend that this was not their customer. This customer liked "showy" clothes with lots of details - lots going on with these clothes. Jewelry requires simple, plain clothes that allow the jewelry to shine. Well, today, not only do women prefer "showy" clothes if they actually bother to dress up (yes, they still DO dress up for Derby here!), but most often today, women are dressed casually to the point of it being rather "careless". Just what jewelry goes with Lulu Lemon work-out clothes? Work clothes? Pretty casual these days - even lady executives no longer wear beautifully tailored suits and dresses for work. With "casual", a simple necklace, a bracelet (maybe - some people have trouble typing on the computer while wearing one), perhaps a ring (again, some have trouble typing) and perhaps earrings (always having to take on off to talk on the phone). When women go out to dinner at night, it's "dressy casual" with more emphasis on the "casual" than the "dressy" part. Church? If they go, it's either VERY casual or dressy casual. When I went to church Easter Sunday, one woman greeted me and said she was hoping I would be there as she always looked forward to see what lovely brooch I would be wearing. These days, the Queen and I are about the only ones who wear brooches anymore - occasionally the Duchess of Cambridge, but pretty rarely. So yet another "pretty" thing that has gone the way of the Dodo bird. I wonder what my DD will do with my jewelry? Will she actually wear it or sell it? I only have one granddaughter and her mother and maternal grandmother have tons of jewelry, much far nicer than mine. And then there are the three grandsons. It rather breaks my heart to think that probably no one will even want my lovely jewelry, lovingly collected over the past 50+ years - some even earlier gifts from my parents.
