UPDATE: Birthday Seed Extravaganza Feb
Comments (85)Thanks, Kim, for starting a new thread! I promise to not blind people on the new one! LOL I included a link below to the new thread. I sure hope you're doing better, Kim... You're still very much in my thoughts and prayers. Dorothy, I'll shoot you an email on the fonts later after I finish the file for the WOW swap. In short, for bigger font, use everything between the quotes, but replace the two quote symbols with a ""font size=4>Type whatever you want in here between the HTML codes."/font> If this isn't clear, I'll send more later by email.... I hope I don't forget... If I do, just email me! LOL Blessings, Angela...See More'Old Fashioned' Backyard Birthday - need ideas!
Comments (13)Ugh! I lost the long reply I had to everyone. Don't have time to re-write right now but thanks to the ideas you offered up, I've decided on a theme (Team Umizoomi - my boy/girl twins love them!) and will incorporate their circle/shapes/numbers theme into a few of the games that were suggested - particularly the obstacle course. christina_ca - I am planning on an "adopt-a-puppy" (play) theme next year for their 4th. A friend suggested it & did it for her daughter. She said it was such a fun time. She collected stuffed puppies on sale/clearance in the months before the party. On the day of the party, she had each child go with her into another room so they could select their puppy privately and then each child went to different "stations" - check up by the vet (her DH is a doctor so he was in white coat with his basic dr kit), pretend bath & grooming station, puppy treats station and receive official adoption certificate station. That was enough activity apparently and it worked perfectly for everyone to have their puppies and go into ice cream & cake. My goal now is to use the theme but remember what I wanted in the first place: an old-fashioned backyard birthday party. Having the theme puts everything into focus for me now - I didn't think to have a theme until y'all mentioned it. Again, thanks for all the ideas....See MoreSD birthday
Comments (79)"both families have to stop competing and focus on what's important." 100% agree. As far as JB not being a good role model, that wasn't exactly my issue. I think his songs are typical/fine/ for tweens and young teens. I just don't like (and this is a jab at society in general, not YOU, Mrs. P) encouraging such little girls to swoon over him or ANY other *teen idol.* It's not that I think there's anything terrible about him or his music. Every generation has a JB. In mine, it was New Kids on the Block. But I think the ages at which girls are often encouraged, either through the media or even their families/friends, to be interested and have crushes on these singers is getting younger and younger. I went to my first concert--NKOTB---when I was 10 and in 5th grade. Now you have girls in first grade acting all lovestruck. THAT is my issue, not Justin Bieber himself. There will always be the Justin Biebers out there and I think it's fine for tweens/teens to swoon over those guys. It's all part of hormone crazed adolescence, I get it. But why rush it? Our little girls have plenty of time for that. I prefer to keep my daughter as young and innocent as long as possible. It's the whole *attitude* that bothers me. It reminds me of my dad's girlfriend with her DD, who is now 11. I remember back when this little girl was maybe 5 or 6, GF would laugh and say, "Shake your booty, girlfriend! Sexy girl!" It was all said in a joking way and she and her family would laugh as this little girl danced doing a "booty shake" but to me, it was just so....unnecessary. Why does a 5 or 6 year old little girl need to be called sexy, or encouraged to shake her butt while she dances? It's THAT attitude I dislike and I think, unfortunately, it's becoming more prevalent....See MoreA birthday party to plan
Comments (76)Party update: I’m never doing a party that is NOT a drop in again! So easy and people felt at ease to come and go. The cake turned out beautifully and was delicious. I was giving my friend a hard time for the sheer size (as she was making it she texted me: “I’m just saying his wedding cake might be a disappointment”) but actually we had over 30 guests and it was almost all eaten. The sun was half a two-layer cake and the rays are white chocolate shards. Em enjoyed his smash cake. I didn’t take good pictures of the decor or food but here are 2/6 banners We did a rainbow fruit tray, colourful candy, charcuterie plate, rainbow veggie tray, cheese and crackers. The relatively healthy snacks were a big hit with the kids/parents (somehow we ended up with like a dozen kids there?) Em was a sociable little guy and had a great time. We timed it for his awake time between naps so he didn’t get overtired or cranky. keeping it short worked well for baby and parents. All in all it turned out GREAT and I’d do it all again next year....See Moreplllog
