Comments (14)Another Zagg owner here. I have the original iPad and got the Zaggmate shortly thereafter. I wanted something to protect it but also wanted a keyboard, so this fit the bill perfectly. I mainly use my iPad for checking email and surfing the internet, but when I'm typing anything that is more than a few lines, I'll use the keyboard. It's much easier than typing on the touch screen. I would think for taking notes, having a keyboard would be preferable. The case is also very sturdy and is supposed to protect the iPad if dropped. Comments (52)I think it MAY be made of rubberwood, as lots of furniture from that area is. Here is some info I found online about it - "DEFINITION OF RUBBERWOOD What is rubberwood? Rubberwood is a hardwood belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family Rubberwood has very little tendency to warp or crack Rubberwood-Eco Friendly! Rubberwood is often the most misunderstood species of wood in the furniture industry. The name rubberwood invokes a variety of misconceptions as to it’s features and to it’s durability. Rubberwood (also called Parawood in Thailand) is the standard common name for the timber of Hevea brasiliensis. In fact, rubberwood is one of the more durable lumbers used in the manufacturing of today’s home furnishings. Rubberwood has a dense grain character that is easily controlled in the kiln drying process. Rubberwood has very little shrinkage making it one of the more stable construction materials available for furniture manufacturing. Like maple, rubberwood is a sap producing species. In the case of maple, it is sap; in the case of rubberwood, it is latex. Rubberwood produces all the latex used in the world for all rubber based products. There is one more important feature of rubberwood that is very important in today’s world. Rubberwood is the most ecologically “friendly” lumber used in today’s furniture industry. After the economic life of the rubber tree, which is generally 26-30 years, the latex yields become extremely low and the planters then fell the rubber trees and plant new ones. So, unlike other woods that are cut down for the sole purpose of producing furniture, rubberwood is used only after it completes it’s latex producing cycle and dies. This wood is therefore eco-friendly in the sense that we are now using what was going as waste. Do not mistake the name rubberwood when it comes to its quality features."...See MoreInput from Users of Wood Pastry Boards for Breadmaking
Comments (22)My hands just now are at their warmest--unusually warm as in they feel hot to me (from eating and kitchen cleanup)--and by my infrared thermometer are about 83° F. The meat thermometer in the drawer is at 80°. My guess is that the drawer one hasn't come down yet since the kitchen was warmer during the day. It was very hot out today but the air conditioner was on so it didn't get above 80° in there. The thermostat just outside the kitchen door, where it is noticeably cooler, says 76°. The soapstone island is 73.5° right over the u/c fridge, according to the infrared, and the tile perimeter is 77°. The rear of the soapstone above the cable box and the waste heat from the fridge, though directly under the a/c vent, is 81.5°. The side nearer the windows is 77° and the side on the interior is 75.5° It's a small island. I think the long way, windows to interior, is 5'. The tile feels like ambient, so I'm guessing it's currently about 77° air temperature in there. Make of all that what you will. I always use a board for yeast breads. I roll pie crusts on the cold spot over the fridge on a silpat. I never thought of it being cooler there. Over the Summer I learned to chill everything, including silpat, rolling pin, pie plate and all ingredients (e.g., flour and salt) to counter the slumpy mess that Summer heat can bring on. The cool spot isn't pie cool. :)...See MoreChoosing Appliances For New Build-Bosch User Friendly?
Comments (37)Just a couple points. Check your favorite cookie sheets to make sure they fit in the ovens, don't assume that just because capacity specs seem large that your things will fit (Bosh didn't fit my extra large cookie sheets that my former Thermador double oven always did). Sometimes rack rails get in the way with some ovens (new Thermador), and the Bosh oven rack has a bit of a lip on the back that kept my sheets from going all the way back. This may not be an issue based on the size of the baking sheets you use...but always do the test. Also, and this is most important, check -warranty differences between your options -make sure you have an authorized repair place available that services the brand you go with -call and see how quickly service can be at your house (took me 3 weeks for an LG refrigerator to get repaired ....and a TON$ to rebuild it after only 3 years owning it....never again will I try LG or Samsung or any other company that takes forever to get parts. Also, I was still in the "covered parts" of the warranty but it still cost me $800 in labor!! I knew when I bought it I would regret it one day but I was a sucker for capacity) -speak with an actual repair tech if either brand has any consistent issues with their ovens, cooktops, etc -ask about the amount of times both ovens are not working in a repair situation -ask the tech which one he would buy Finally, in the few times I had service on my Thermador double oven, it was never the "whole oven" being out of commission. It would be the door of one, or the temperature of the other, etc...never both. In the end, an outdated control panel is why I had to replace it, and in the end I was down to one oven working/hanging...I was never without both. That's not to say it can't happen, but I think that a good double oven is built to take this risk into account. I have a new double-oven being installed on Tuesday and am getting another double-oven, not two separate. Maybe I was lucky, but thought it was worth mentioning because I like my ovens having just one control panel at eye level....See MoreLars
