I think I've finally found my cabinet paint!
Comments (13)I don't think you guys are getting the problem here. Matching isn't the issue! As much as I've ranted over it. I've found 10 colors that I absolutely love and are perfect. Until .... I get them home in the natural light. THEN, they turn turquoise, teal, or any way a green can blue. It's the light. I can't take that to any store I know of and have them match it. I've taken 10 paint chips to the store which they've made perfectly. Bring it home? Blueish in some lights. Ick. As far as the sheen, I like it in this instance. It's woodwork and the dining room can be somewhat darkened because of the porch outside. I understand the issues with a glossier paint. For being pissed? I was annoyed that yet again I was finding I was given the lip service "no" without someone actually taking the initiative to figure out the possibilities. So many can't think on their own. "No" is a good answer when "no" is the only answer. Even then, there are options. When my paint man actually looked up the formula, the high gloss was a base option. It wasn't a question of an inferior product. I am very open to information as to the whys of something. Automatic nay-sayers piss me off. I lived with one, who addressed every idea with, "The problem with that is...." rather than, "hmmm.. let's see what we can do." I choose to face all this crap I deal with optimistically, believe it or not. Or I'd probably kill myself. Or them. Even my Multi-Purpose Man has quit saying no. He asks, "Tell me how you see it?" BTW. So far, in the lights of two days, the color remains.... [drum roll] PERFECT!!! Thank you. [bowing left and right]...See MoreHas anyone found the book "Old Roses in China"?

Comments (12)No Nik, Mutabilis seedlings sometimes inherit their parent's trait for multicolored flowers. My observation has been mostly self seedlings inherit it. The cross I really want to see is Comtesse du Cayla X Mutabilis. My observation on that one, based on the innumerable times I've attempted it (both directions) is, they HATE each other. What did work was a presumed triploid mini crossed with Mutabilis, but it hasn't expressed the multicolored color shift. I say presumed triploid because it has yielded results with some pretty "mulish" mates that only fertile triploidy can explain....See MoreChina cabinet update/Sorry Beagles: I'm keeping it
Comments (57)To answer a few questions. To start, yes, I do keep going in the room to gape at my new piece. Fortunately we eat all our meals in that room so I see it daily. (I'm tempted to tell DH he now has to eat on the other side of the table since his usual seat is on the side of the cabinet. Kidding. Sort of.) I got the piece from Facebook, on a local version of the "Buy nothing, Sell Nothing" group in my neighborhood. I've given away a lot of furniture and a few times a year, I give around ten tickets or so, to Longwood. The woman who was gifting it had owned it for ten years. She had originally planned on painting it grey, but thankfully life got in the way of those plans. She is a young married work from home mom with a few kids and a seriously untrained one year old golden retreiver. Her house was an 80's split level with a beachy vibe (wasn't my thing, but to each her own.) I gave her five tickets to Longwood as a thank you for the cabinet. She called Longwood her "happy place." Later, I sent her the picture of it in its new home and her response was that it looked better at my house than hers. I've since looked on facebook marketplace and it is crazy how many people give away china cabinets. I get it--no bride wants china anymore, but still!...See Moreamykath
