Drapery opinions, please

The plan is to add bamboo wooden shades above the window & add drapery panels. I would have 1.5 - 2x width for this window.
I have tacked up IKEA cream linen type panels- but at 98" tall- they aren't tall enough. There is another, I think riveta drapes, that area 118"L.
Or I could go in patterned panel direction. I saw this panel on Laura Bern blog(spell?). The background is white, where my walls are more of a creamy white. These come in 108" L, which I think would be better.
I cant decide on staying neutral or going with more pattern on the drapes? I also have 2 sets of French doors that will be treated the same way since it's open concept living space.
Pattern or neutral?

Comments (9)I love your inspiration picture, and it seems that you're half way to reaching your goal, but I'm completely mystified by your purchase of these modernized Southwest style end tables!!! Even if you strip them and refinish them, they're never going to complement the items you have already selected. They're very dated for the room & brutal compared to the graceful lines of your new furniture. I think your ID was on the right track in suggesting the EA table (maybe bit heavy in proportions & too $$ IMO) that complemented the lines of the furniture already selected, but you already have plenty of 90 degree corners in your room, and I'd suggest some relief from that with round shapes. Also, you're not obligated to have matching end tables, just complementary ones. I just went through table selections from Houzz and found these tables that might work for your installation. I'd recommend an oval shaped coffee table instead of a square or rectangular shaped one.. I like the Benson table & the lines of he French Brasserie table from Restoration Hardware which it comes in lots of sizes, some on sale for less than $395, discount if you purchase more than one. If you don't like the metal top, you can always add a glass round to the top to make it special. In addition, though I like the sparkle of a mirror, I don't think a large one over the sofa was a good choice. Take a look in your picture & see what the mirror reflects......people walking into you room and the piano on the opposite wall. I would replace it with a vertical mirror/s behind the end table/s and tall slender lamps when your sofa arrives to raise the eye in your room. Maybe a lovely artwork selection or art grouping over the sofa, (not family photos). Are you planning to eliminate your sheers? I'll bet it's been 20 years since I last recommended sheers to a client. Yesterday I saw some striped grey beige drapery panels at West Elm on sale. They're just cotton, but the horizontal stripe would be effective in your room & add a bit of whimsy. Okay, probably more than you wanted to hear but I can't really ever turn off being a designer. Comments (21)Graywings, one of the girls from another decor board did something similar for her LR drapes just a few years ago. She was in Paris at the time, and I remember several of us following her drape saga with interest. Wish I could find a photo of what she did. Her panels were heavier weight than what you are looking at using, something in a velvet or similar, I believe. She used one color for the main drape and then attached a length maybe 14" deep to the Bottom of her drape. I believe she used piping between the two fabrics. Anyway, it looked wonderful. And I think that perhaps flipping your idea and doing the bottom in the different color might look better? I think your idea could be pretty............maybe better without adding the red insert, or if you add red, just a line of piping rather than the 2" inset. So, here's what I would do..... You have those panels already. So, get out your dressmaker straight pins and pin your pieces together. Do it very carefully so that it looks as close to 'sewn together' as you can get with pins. Leave out the red for now so you can play with your panels. Do you have a rod hung already? Hanging your finished product from the rod, using the existing rod pocket in your panel, will give you the best idea of how it will appear, but if you don't have a rod up, you may be able to use a strong masking or duct type tape to get them in place. Now, arrange them so you can visualize. Leave the room, then, walk back in and 'surprise' yourself. If you don't love the blue at the top, try the same idea like I suggested, with the deep hem of blue at the bottom edge. Once you do this, I think you will know whether to go full-speed-ahead or go for something else. And if you love the look, then, perhaps you can find something red to tack on as your narrow band in the middle, to get an idea of how that will look when finished. In a lightweight fabric like the one you are using, that's the part that worries me, because trying to do something like this with the addition of the narrow middle piece might hang puckered..........does that make sense? I've included a link at half priced drapes.com where they show their bottom banding. My Paris friend's looked a little similar, although, I don't think she did a 27" band. Also, you may find something there. I saw some 50" wide panels in 120" length on sale for $79 per panel. And a fabric with a bit more weight and heft to it just might hang better if you are fusing two separate colors. Comments (4)No. Would not use one long drape. You need to be able to open/close the lower drapes and, absent costly electronics added, it is not practical to open/close the longer drape panels and it might not even be desirable. It might not even be desirable to add any drapes/curtains to the upper windows. The drapes on the lower windows are about decoration and light control and privacy. It's not as if there is a skyscraper next door -- appears to be wide open spaces -- so, unless you need light control against fabric fading from the sunlight, you really don't need drapes/curtains on the upper window for any of those reasons, do you?...See MorePeppapoodle

Thank you, Rita. I feel with all the wood (DH) I am wanting to add some softness. And I love drapes. But, don't want to pay for cu$tom anymore. So, hoping I can find ready maxes that don't look too cheap!!!

I think I'll order both patterned ones & see how they look in my spaces.
