Do you know how tall the arms are of your new sofa?

I am a bit worried these will be a bit wide and heavy for your new look. The arms you have in your new furniture are small-scale and leave a nice, open look. If you see in your inspiration pic, glass is used as well, with a smaller end table to continue with this feeling of openness. I like the tables themselves, but feel like they need chunky furniture to work well.

Anele, I hear what you're saying. The back wall is 15 ft long and the new couch is 79" long and 37" high, not sure how high the arm is.

The end tables are 30" square and will either fill the space nicely or look too big. My new couch isn't due to arrive until October, but I'm thinking that perhaps I'll get these tables stained black before they come in case they do work.

It's hard to tell without the actual couch, but they actually look pretty good with the current couch. I'm attaching a pic of the table my ID had chosen (Ethan Allen Everett End table - $900), we had decided that they seemed too big too, although now I see they're 30" wide too.

The table your ID picked out is much more in keeping with the lines of your inspiration pic, however. It is just as big (30 in is pretty big for an end table), BUT, it is only the very top, and then the legs curve in. On your tables, it is more of a solid piece with straight lines.

I am a huge fan of Craigslist, though it does require a lot of time and patience. You can also put your name on a wishlist at consignment stores-- does not have to be the $900 table or the thrift store ones, you know? AND, since you have the thrift store tables, why not use them now? Once you get the sofa and if you like the scale/shape with it, I would say paint it black, maybe with some gold accents.

I think a brass table might work, too, if you don't hate brass. (I like it.)

I love your inspiration picture, and it seems that you're half way to reaching your goal, but I'm completely mystified by your purchase of these modernized Southwest style end tables!!! Even if you strip them and refinish them, they're never going to complement the items you have already selected. They're very dated for the room & brutal compared to the graceful lines of your new furniture.

I think your ID was on the right track in suggesting the EA table (maybe bit heavy in proportions & too $$ IMO) that complemented the lines of the furniture already selected, but you already have plenty of 90 degree corners in your room, and I'd suggest some relief from that with round shapes. Also, you're not obligated to have matching end tables, just complementary ones.

I just went through table selections from Houzz and found these tables that might work for your installation. I'd recommend an oval shaped coffee table instead of a square or rectangular shaped one.. I like the Benson table & the lines of he French Brasserie table from Restoration Hardware which it comes in lots of sizes, some on sale for less than $395, discount if you purchase more than one. If you don't like the metal top, you can always add a glass round to the top to make it special.

In addition, though I like the sparkle of a mirror, I don't think a large one over the sofa was a good choice. Take a look in your picture & see what the mirror reflects......people walking into you room and the piano on the opposite wall. I would replace it with a vertical mirror/s behind the end table/s and tall slender lamps when your sofa arrives to raise the eye in your room. Maybe a lovely artwork selection or art grouping over the sofa, (not family photos).

Are you planning to eliminate your sheers? I'll bet it's been 20 years since I last recommended sheers to a client. Yesterday I saw some striped grey beige drapery panels at West Elm on sale. They're just cotton, but the horizontal stripe would be effective in your room & add a bit of whimsy. Okay, probably more than you wanted to hear but I can't really ever turn off being a designer.

I like the Benson table too and when I look at the traffic flow, an oval table might be much better, so that people don't hit their knees when walking by. I'm in Canada so need to check if they ship here.

So many ideas to think about.

The sheers...I know, I know, but I am not crazy about the Silhoutte or Pirouettes because it feels like there is not enough privacy. My ID has been suggesting them but I am hesitating due to cost and the privacy issue. Maybe I just need to get over it and bit the bullet and order them...but it's difficult!!

Lots to think about....the pieces you've suggested, the idea about the mirror...wish making choices wasn't so difficult!

fillagirl, Decisions about interiors can be hard if you don't make them all the time, and if you are just a bit too close to the issues.

Why not simply do drapes that close and not have any blinds or shades? I'm not a fan of the Silhouttes or the Pirouettes. Maybe you only need a blind that goes up half way when you need privacy. I only have something for privacy on my bedroom windows and no others. It's just not an issue for me.

OK, so I had a round black table that I put in the LR to see what it might look like....I definitely like the black beside the chairs and couch. I think the one I have might be a bit small (23.5 inches round) so I might look for something a big larger.

I'm also attaching a photo of my bay window (with old wing chairs). I want stationary panels because I don't want to be opening and closing them all the time and I do need the privacy....not sure what I'm going to do here.

Also adding a photo of the wall opposite the couch, where the piano is...
