Gibby, I come from an alcoholic home, too, and don't drink for the same reason. As you said, I think any addiction can be substituted for another. Kelly, as I said in another thread, deprivation never tends to work for me. The last thing we need is more guilt, and I think the idea of a "detox" is sort of like seeing our bodies and our eating habits as dirty and shameful. I know some people do it w/o that connotation, but it's good to see if this is part of why you want to do it. If so, you may want to reconsider. As for craving vegetables vs. sugar . . .again, using my "look deeper" attitude, think about what you are craving when you want sugar. First of all, remember that most of us DO crave sugar. That is not abnormal. But, is there more? Do you crave energy? Do you feel like you are "treating" yourself when you want the sugar? Again, most of us do like the taste of sugar-- it's programmed into us. Breastmilk is sweet for that reason! I have mentioned that I like the ADDITIVE attitude. So, if you want to eat more fruits and vegetables, go for it! One of the things I learned about myself was that I do like veggies . . .a LOT, but only if they are prepared (vs. just boiled/steamed). For example, I could easily live on veggies the way they are prepared in Ethiopian cuisine. My friend just made a salad with grilled veggies and pesto. I craved it because it was GOOD. Bottom line-- I don't think juicing will cure you of cravings. But, if you want to add more fruits/vegs. into your diet, maybe try preparing them in more interesting ways, as well as juicing, but maybe don't limit yourself to only a juice diet until you have your expectations clearly laid out. (Not saying you don't already.)

I could not live with the plant on the floor. After half an hour, I had it back up on the stand. I may look for a stand at half the height when I am able to get out. Now I have to deal with the mess I made in my summer kitchen. I have another cabinet in my sewing room that I can display the owl clock on, most of the other stuff I will just pack away. My next project is my dining room. It is very small and is open to my kitchen. My sons are coming over soon, I hope, to move my china cabinet out of my entry way into to my dining room. I hope I don't have to set on my hands too long. haha I want to thank every one for your help. It has really made my living room so much prettier. I remember one time, Mom asked my sisters and I to come up and restage her living room. You should have heard the discussions we had as we all had different ideas. We did finally manage to declutter her room and it was looking pretty good. I think by the time we got back home, she had everything changed back to the way it was before. I made up my mind if I asked for help, I was going to try the different suggestions. I am so glad that I did. I just love the way it has turned out. I guess I really did not believe that I could get away with not using everything that my kids and stepchildren gave to me over the years. Thanks you again. dody

We here online can't pick your color because our monitors are not calibrated to your house. Additionally, some folks here prefer a paint that contrasts, and some like one that blends with the tile. What do YOU prefer? It's your house and you have to live with it and not all us anonymous folks online. :) And even look at the different photos you posted and how the color of the cabinet looks different in each photo! Live with all the samples for several days being sure to see it in all different lights and then choose. If you have a trusted friend who can come over, that would be a better way to do it because that friend will be seeing it in real life and not on a computer monitor.

Hi smurfette36- Your credenza is lovely! If you are comfortable viewing your television with it placed there, then by all means, leave the credenza right where it is. Can you put up some photos of what the other end of the room looks like? Also the adjoining room? I also think the room desperately needs some more color, even if the color is black. You can do this with a new rug, or you can keep the rug and add the color with art. It is difficult to do a gallery wall. It can easily look like clutter, or like one can't afford a larger important work. But in the end, one actually spends more on the sum of those several smaller pieces that aren't anywhere as nice as the one larger piece you could have purchased that would have made your heart sing every time you saw it. I favor a hand knotted Oriental rug such as a Persian of any type. They last forever and never go out of style and go with any furniture type and color. And they are less expensive than most people realize. But you can certainly keep your current rug, and just turn it 90 degrees. You can get some throw pillows in whatever color way you like, but for sure, please get them with interesting textures such as nubby knit, velvet, corded trim, etc. Or your "color" can be black, and a couple of pillows can be an animal print with black, such as a leopard, and your art print can be a black and white print of anything you like. I would replace the lamp in the corner, that one is too small and old fashioned. I would not get one with a colored base. That is too restricting, because if you decide to change things up in the room, you are stuck with a lamp in a specific color that will cost a pretty penny to replace. Get a sturdy lamp in the appropriate size in a classic shape. Also, the plant in that corner is undersized, please keep your eyes open at tag sales for a big, big one, either a kentia palm or a fiddle leaf fig.
