Thanks for posting a pic just_julie, beautiful! They said I can't because the medicine cabinets would be in the way. They said side sconces are usually placed at 60 inches above the floor. To the left of the makeup vanity is a corner where the medicine cabinet is. I like the 2 lamps on the makeup vanity to provide light at eye level. But how do I get electricity to these lamps? Could I just put an outlet behind each lamp on the wall? But do I need to have a backsplash at the makeup vanity though?? Wasn't sure if it would look weird if there is a backplash at the sink vanity and not at the makeup vanity. I asked the electrician & contractor about mounting sconces in the mirror as pictured. Contractor said he would charge $$$ to cut the mirror so that option is out. Don't know what to do in addition to the 2 lamps. I REALLY don't like vanity lights above the mirrors...but recessed lighting casts shadows. What to do???

Ooh, i don't usually like granite, but that granite, with that vanity and those floors...fabulous! You have good taste! Sorry that ganite didn't work! Your inspiration photo has white solid surface counter of some kind...could be silestone, or corian. I think that would look good too if you went just a little warmer than white white. You say you've got white tiles in the shower so white countertops could work? Looks like you've used a lightish gray grout on the floor, and I think that color of grey for the walls could be really nice. I'm not very good at recommending specific paint colors, but, I know that many folks that have selected grey rave about Ellen Kennon's Gustavian grey. You can try searching for Ellen Kennon on the web and learn more about her full spectrum paint. I think she has some rooms that have been painted Gustavian Grey on her site. Ellen also offer free color consultatin via phone, if you buy her paint. Keep us posted and thanks for the pics!

Squirrel, thanks for the compliments! We have not progressed in the DR much other than properly framing out the archway to the LR and adding another archway to the staircase. Not typical, but it lets so much light in and also allows a view of the fireplace (formerly in the LR, now the foyer). I work at RH now, and might get one of the lanterns there but really like one from PB so that may be my next job! I do love the RH chairs though, an investment for sure. The table will be the last thing since ours works just fine and is long, just too airy for the room. I might try to deepen the maple with a get stain if we do go for the chairs. My concerns with the DR were mostly due to that rug, which I love but if you recall had really rich golds, ambers and reds. Works great with my house, but as a good friend of mine says, sometimes with these old homes you need to let them breathe, which to me means using a lighter rug like sisal or seagrass and doing the walls gray, and using window treatments sparingly. So we'll see. For now we still have the wallpaper and the rug. Heavy! I did get lots of different opinions about the tower and I'm still not sure I made the right choice, but I stuck with it full height, just made it narrower by 3 inches and made it only 6 inches deep. Considering mirrored doors if they won't (further) break the bank!

You have a dropped ceiling in this area because, as you can see in the photo, it accommodates a duct for HVAC or an exhaust fan. Your current fixture may be surface-mounted because of the duct. You won't know if there is room for recessed cans until the ceiling is opened, or you look down from the attic if there is attic space above this room. I would run your mirror from corner to corner, install sconces through the mirror and get rid of the overhead lights. I doubt you need them. The lights in front of the mirror will provide double the light.
