You might want to look at sherwins williams Sea Salt. It can be made in BM paint. It's a spa like green/blue/gray that should look wonderful with your cabinets. If you do a search on the color several people have posted pictures.

Oh, I forgot to mention..... I have a strange aversion to blue :-)

I think you shouldn't rule out grey. Grey and tan can look fantastic together. Check out Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.
both sea salt and revere pewter are fairly popular colors so you can search on the web for images of rooms with these colors and get a better idea of what they will look like.

There are many warmer gray tones. I agree with Andrea. I love gray!

Okay, I could go with gray. Could you help me choose a warm gray and.... a granite countertop? I feel helpless these days and rushed....

Here's a link to ours. Floor tiles have gray and rust/tan and wall are painted grey. Paint is C2, Monday Morning. Granite is charcoal with grey - was a remnant so no idea about the stone name.

Hi! My advice for you is to slow down and take your time. your GC can wait while you make up your mind about granite and paint.

First thing I would do is choose a granite. You want your granite and paint color to go nicely together. Paint colors are endless but granite not so much, so, choose your granite, or marble, first. If you are buying a slab, go to the granite showroom and find something that you love. Chose your specific piece of granite. Then, take photos of your bathroom, and the granite and then repost asking for ideas for paint.

DO NOT LET YOUR GC rush you. Don't forget, he/she is working FOR YOU! It is better to take your time and get the decisions right than rush because your contractor wants to finish the job on his schedule. YOU are the one that will be living with these decisions for years to come, not him. So...slow down. Reset his expectations on the schedule if necessary. Then, move forward with your granite selection. Years from now you won't remember that you needed an extra week or two to make your choices, but you will live every day with a choice that isn't right for you or your bathroom.

andreadeg, you are so right! I think I got caught up in the rush because I am anxious for it to be finished too! The contractor will have to slow down at this point.

We looked at granite yesterday and honestly, I really didn't like anything. We are going to visit two more today, but I am not hopeful. I'll just have to choose something....

If you are dealing with beige (you said your floor is tan) make sure your paint goes with the undertone AND your granite! Maria Killam's article was really helpful to me!

In my last house guest bathroom, I had cherry cabinets, beige tile and corian counter tops. I took a sample of the corian to the paint store and picked up a color in the corian which was sort of a gray green, it all really went well together. So I was going to suggest you pick up a color in your granite for your wall color.

I have a feeling choosing a wall color will be easier once I have picked out a granite. The granite is the hard part for me!

I would always wait until I had the fabric for the window. Much easier to pick paint from fabric than the other way around.

I too didn't find a granite that I love. I ended up with marble instead of granite. Maybe you can look at other materials...granite, marble, corian...etc for your countertop?

The shower tile is plain white. This is a mini redo and the tile is in perfect condition, so although it's not my first choice, I couldn't justify ripping it down.

I would love to use marble, but after everything I've read and heard about it staining, etching, etc, I am afraid to use it in a bathroom that will be used by older teenaged girls (nail polish, remover, hair products, hot flat irons)!!

I just returned from yet another granite yard and FOUND SOMETHING!! Keep your fingers crossed for me that there is enough of this particular remnant - the guy is calling me back later today.

The saga continues....
The granite remnant I found is unavailable - it had been sold and the salesman didn't know it until today. Ugh. Aside from the fact that this is the ONLY granite I have liked so far, we were getting an amazing price for it.
I've shopped around and CANNOT find this particular granite anywhere...even at the largest granite fabricator probably on the east coast.
So my choices are:
1) keep looking for granite and finally just pick one even if I'm not in love with it
2) go with marble which is what I really like best, but I'm afraid since I've heard so many precautionary tales as to why to not use marble in bathrooms (especially those used by older teen girls).

Sorry to hear it! Yeah, I agree with you about the marble. We used marble, but I'm very cautious about any chemicals that I use in the bathroom. Well...actually I don't use any harsh chemicals in the bathroom because of the marble. No hair dye, no polish remover, no hair spray even.

Granite or corian seem like they would be a better choice. Solid surface is great, but, you could consider formica, knowing that you would replace it later when the girls have moved out.

By the way, do you happen to know the name of the granite that you liked? Just curious...wanted to get a visualation for what you like as a countertop surface.

Hang in there! And don't worry, this is a normal part of the process...everyone that has remodeled a bathroom goes through the stress of trying to choose fixtures, tile, vanities, ligthing, countertop, grout, etc. The list goes on and on for everything that has to be decided. You'll get there in due time.

Since the bathroom is going to be used by your girls you could ask them what they like? Maybe that would work as an angle towards deciding on something?

Thanks for your nice note. My youngest is 16 and we probably won't be here for more than 5 years now. The reason for the mini redo is because the builder grade sink and vanity were looking pretty bad!

Can you opt for Silestone? We chose it for our last kitchen remodel, and I loved it. Softer than granite, more durable, and there are a couple of lovely whites, which is what I think you really want, isn't it?

...and there are two lovely warm grays in the Affinity/Aura group at BMoore..."wish" (AF-680) and "thunder" (AF-685), depending on how deep you want the walls.

Ooh, i don't usually like granite, but that granite, with that vanity and those floors...fabulous! You have good taste! Sorry that ganite didn't work! Your inspiration photo has white solid surface counter of some kind...could be silestone, or corian. I think that would look good too if you went just a little warmer than white white. You say you've got white tiles in the shower so white countertops could work?

Looks like you've used a lightish gray grout on the floor, and I think that color of grey for the walls could be really nice. I'm not very good at recommending specific paint colors, but, I know that many folks that have selected grey rave about Ellen Kennon's Gustavian grey. You can try searching for Ellen Kennon on the web and learn more about her full spectrum paint. I think she has some rooms that have been painted Gustavian Grey on her site. Ellen also offer free color consultatin via phone, if you buy her paint.

Honestly, I would prefer a plain, solid white surface (like the picture) but DH only likes 'natural' and for him to spend $$ on granite he wants "wow" factor out of it.

I have to LOL about the floor comment - that's dirty white grout!! After the construction is done I am having someone come in to restore the grout all around! ;-p

Although I am leaning toward green, gray, tans or greige, I'll have to hold off to see what colors are in the granite we end up with.

If I knew it was so much trouble to do a mini-redo, I would have spent my efforts and dollars on the master bath!! That is the next project though!

Oh dear, well, I guess it's back to the granite grind! You'll find the right thing. Your granite is out there waiting for you:-)

That's so funny about the grout. I swear on my monitor it looks grey, but I'm sure my monitor is just "off".

Well...this is a good warmup for the master bath! By the time you get to the design phase of the master bath you'll probably know exactly what you want and it will all go that much more smoothly.

The vanity and toilet are in, the crown moulding is up AND.....##drum roll##....I have selected paint colors and granite!

The wall paint is BM Providence Olive (a green/gray) and the ceiling is BM Early Morning Mist (a creamy gray).

Here is a pic of my granite which will be templated on Monday and installed on Thursday or Friday...yahoo!

Your granite is beautiful and sounds like the colors you have picked out will really complement it and add some energy to the bathroom. Look forward to seeing the finished pictures. GREAT CHOICES!!!

Take tile samples to the granite showroom or stone yard. Try to get a sample of the granite, take it home and get out the paint chips. Ellen Kennon Gustavian Gray is beautiful but I've seen it "read' a bit bluish. I can see that with "UbaTuba Green" granite- but not sure about that with your floor tile color. It's deep, blue/green/black with (usually) subtle bright flecks,sort of gold.
However, if you have not seen any granite you like, you might not like that one either. (Note: Granite types tend to have different names from different sources). You might like a Dakota Mahoghany - with the floor tiles and Cherry wood. Then the cooler Gustavian Gray might be just the thing. A deeper taupe type: EK Driftwood. It's a darker color, but Really Beautiful.
