What do you do when you run out of space?
Comments (32)Now, view1ny, I'm not saying you should go hog wild or anything...but...I'm trying to do my part to bolster the flagging rose nurseries and economy, lol! Vettin, we got the little greenhouse at ACO Hardware but I also know it's available at Spray-n-grow's web site and other places. I don't know what you mean by a shady overhang. There is a standard overhang along our wall but it does get full sun (what little there is in winter here) all day. I do dig out under performers and pot them up to see if they'll improve and replace them with newer or stronger ones. I'm terrible at shovel pruning. I figure if they manage to live through the winter who am I to toss them out. I have a soft heart. But if something is still a dog after going in a pot, out it goes. BTW, I have written a couple papers on how I do all the rose pots and winterizing. If anyone is interested in either of them I can email them to you....See MoreDo you ever go to Restaurant Supply stores? What do you buy?
Comments (35)My favorite restaurant supply store find is my measuring scoops. I gave a set to Diana in the my favorite things swap - you can see a picture on that thread. Restaurant supply stores are good for getting substantial stainless steel measuring cups and spoons instead of the wimpy aluminum ones that bend or dent. Or the big thin spatulas that can be used for tasks like lifting a layer of cake after you have split it horizontally to add fillings. In addition to what others have mentioned, they often have the cake pans with straight sides instead of sloped which is nice when making layer cakes. Around here there are two kinds - the ones that sell mainly food with a bit of equipment and the ones that sell mainly equipment - everything from utensils to major appliances. Smart and Final and Cash and Carry are the food kind - they are under the same ownership but Cash and Carry is bigger with more specialized food. For example, our Smart and Final has a few kinds of Torani syrup but the Cash and Carry has the full line plus some other lines of flavoring syrups. The equipment ones aren't all equal either. The area that has Cash and Carry has about 3 of the non-food restaurant supply stores. One carries nicer more varied stuff than the other two. But all have at least the basics like the stainless steel sheet pans, good cooling racks and lots of utensils. All the ones around here are open to the public. You don't have to be a restaurant or have a tax ID. Here is a link that might be useful: Link to thread with picture of the scoops...See MoreDo You Find When You Go Out To Eat...........?
Comments (16)DH and I always order the same pizza from our favorite place: Medium thin crust S.O.S. (sausage, onion, spinach). If I'm eating out I usually order something I'm not going to fuss over making at home. I like my own hamburgers, steaks, chops, chicken, etc. I'm a slow eater, and I can't eat much all at once, so those lunches of a cup of soup or small salad and half a sandwich (maybe egg or tuna salad on whole wheat) are *plenty* for me. I never have room for the 'sides' of slaw or fries or chips....See MoreHow Often Do You Eat Out?
Comments (32)meant to add that we both love to cook, i especially enjoy it when i can take my time. as mentioned already for us it's a special meal when we do cook together, we usually try to on fridays and sundays. during the week thou we often have other things going on in the evening so we don't have time. my dad has eaten 3 meals a day out for 17 yrs now. once my mom got cancer, they mostly went out to eat and then when she died, ten yrs ago, he had no clue in the kitchen. onetime right after her death, he called me because he could not figure out what went wrong w/ his fav soup, campbells clam chowder :-/ he used water and not milk :-( he also called me about some yellow gooo in the dishwasher LOL i was thinking along the lines of sealant or something technical but it was the soap LOL. the housekeeper partially loaded it and put soap in so he could add his coffee cups and run it. he has had the stove disconnected from the gas line for 10 yrs and bought a little wine fridge (got rid of the reg fridge) to hold the milk for his daily coffee. coffee is the only thing made at his house LOL. he only eats at non-chain restaurants, he has his set ones and they all treat him like a king LOL. shockingly he's not in the least bit overweight, infact he's a bit on the too skinny side and is 70 yrs old. he's looking for a new house to move to and amoug the requirements for the next house is that he needs to be able to walk to plenty of restaurants when he gets "old" lol ~ liz...See Morenicole___
