Do You Find When You Go Out To Eat...........?

Do you find when you go out to eat at certain places you always end up ordering the same thing? I have tried different things when we get food from Bob Evans, but I always go back to the half sandwich combo. I always get the loaded baked potato soup, half pot roast sandwich and a large unsweet iced tea. Daughter Amber does the same thing, she always gets the salad with the cranberries and chicken in it. Does anyone else do this?

I love beets. Especially ones fresh from the garden then roasted. Then there's Harvard Beets and pickled beets. I've been craving roasted brussels sprouts, but neither husband nor dd like them...dd used to, but now she's so anti-mom she's sworn off lots of stuff she used to like. Grits I learned to like when I was in Grad school in Billsburg, VA. I liked to go to the Chickahominy House to have a Virginian breakfast: eggs over easy, a slice of Virginia ham and grits, with a buttermilk biscuit. You could have redeye gravy, but I preferred to smush my eggs into the grits. Then there's egg/cheese/grits casserole. Cornbread is best slathered with butter, or drizzled with honey. I rarely do both anymore, but I used to. I brought rolls for the trip to MI to have Thanksgiving. I was up until 2:00 am on Thursday making them. I intended to make whole wheat "brown and serve" rolls, but I didn't hear the timer ding, and so in a panic, I baked them completely so I could taste test and make sure they were edible (they were, although some were big enough to be hamburger buns). For the young fry I made PIllsbury crescent rolls...as I know that dd and others prefer those. On the way home today she was munching on one and said "Oh, what is is that makes crescent rolls so yummy." "in a word," I said, "lots of fat." I have to say that driving up to Hastings, MI on Thursday morning was wonderful. A typical Michigan Thanksgiving day--misc. flurries and the sun breaking through glowering clouds over golden and russet fields which had been lightly frosted with a diamond dust. Breathtaking.

When do you plant out and how do you do it?

I am a slave to the weather channel. We have it on first thing in the morning, and I always look at the weekly outlook- highs & lows. Once the temps start staying above 40 or so at night, I start the plant-out (this is a personal thing, as I see that recluse uses 30. I don't have enough info to know which ones are hardy enough to take the lower temps, so I just use 40+) If the temps dip after that, I'll toss a cloche over them for the night. I also like to use the 15-day forecast over at accuweather.com, but obviously if the weatherman can't get it right for 2-days out, it's unlikely that they really know the 15-day outlook. But I'm only looking at the temps, so knowing that the earth's orbit is relatively stable (wink), I can rest assured that they may at least have THAT part pretty close. Planting out: It depends how thickly I sowed them. Unlike recluse, I "sprinkle and go" with many many containers. This might mean entirely too many seeds in a container, but I've found that it makes for a good show when planted out HOS. If I got super-good germination and a totally green container because I sowed WAY thick, I'll do WAY small HOSs. Some of my annuals like Marigolds and Zinnias I don't do HOS, but most things I do. They can duke it out after they're in the ground. HOW you plant out is very much relative to how detail-oriented you are. If you're very specific about how you do things, it may throw your whole world into an uproar to try and do a plunk 'n run technique. Of course, depending on how many containers you got out there, you may find yourself plunking, running, and drinking heavily due to the stress of HAVING to do it at some point ;)

Glenda, we are leaving Feb. 7th. and doing the Western Caribbean and thinking about booking the same ship on the 14th. and doing the Eastern Caribbean. This is our good time to get away and we are flying into Florida so the airfare will cost the same if we stay one week or two. We have already been to all the ports we will visit, but we don't care. Are you leaving from Florida and what cruiseline? I would say to have a good time, but I know you will. But I will say it anyway, have a good time and enjoy your cruise.

We are building now, but when we were remodeling our current home we had no kitchen for 6 months. Remodeling was a must as we had just remodeled and just finished our wood floors , we were at home improvement store getting floor grates when ds called shrieking saying the washer pipe had burst and it was flooding everything. Rushed home, everything downstairs wet with massive amounts of water. I was heartsick and devastated. We had been remodeling for about 4 months. Ok, you think thats bad, I was going to hosp. in 2 days to have 11th child by c-section. I was distraught. Insurance adjusters came next day, with large indutsrial fans in tow, and started ripping everything out, floor, carpet, new wainscot, baseboard, appliances etc. Everyone had to live upstairs, which was 2 bathrooms, master bedroom, small family area. Kitchen, the only usable downstairs room, was torn apart, our frig was on back patio. No stove, no nothing except sink and counters. Thats how I came home with new baby. I was just a little hormonal. I cooked in that kitchen for 6 months, May-Dec. Prepared just about anything you could think of with the counter top appliances. Made Thanksgiving dinner with a large roaster (did you know you can make wonderful pies in those things), crockpot, micro, electric skillet and 2 burner portable cook type thing. I definitely couldn't feed my children fast food for that long & really had to maintain some sort of normalcy for them. Am not saying I would do it again, but boy I still appreciate my new kitchen and its been 3 years.

Sue, I do exactly as you do at Bob Evans. The half pot roast sandwich and soup. I love that pot roast sandwich at Bob's. At any other restaurant, I rarely order the same things over again. Just at Bob's and that pot roast sandwich. Did I mention that I love that pot roast sandwich at Bob Evans?

We have a little pizza place in our neighborhood, that we go to quite frequently.

We always get the same pizza and I always get the same salad.

There are those places I ALWAYS order the same thing, cause I love it, and there are places where I try new/different stuff.

Depends on the restaurant.

I sure do. I walk in and the waitress knows exactly what I want at many of the places where we eat. Hubby will occasionally throw them a curve and order something different.

It's a good thing I don't get a full pot roast sandwich. I would probably make myself sick eating it. I just love it. I know what you mean Gazania, so good. Now if I am eating at Logan's, I usually get the baked sweet potato, and that chicken with the melted cheese on it. I haven't been there for awhile.

Yes. We have a family restaurant in the area whose cook really knows how to make Eggs Benedict, with fresh Hollandaise ...and its my favorite meal.

Some of my favorite places, I don't get to eat at very often. So I always order what I know I love, which is why that spot became a 'favorite.'

Yes, that's why I go there. I go to Olive Garden for the Salad, bread sticks and lasagna. I go to Logan's for a fillet. Chili's for chicken fajita, etc...

Yes, I definitely do this with a couple of places. Some things are so good that I just can't pass them up.

Linda, I walk in to CiCi's Pizza and the cook puts on a ham and cheddar with Zesty sauce, so I can have a hot one, with a puddle of cheese in the middle. Umm good.

There is a restaurant here that serves a wonderful strawberry and spinach salad and a sandwich. They have about a dozen or so different types of sandwiches and I have the salad with a different sandwich each time I go. I think it is just an excuse to have the salad.

we have a deli place we always order the same thing...they have all these huge sandwiches...i always get turkey and dh corned beef...

DH and I always order the same pizza from our favorite place: Medium thin crust S.O.S. (sausage, onion, spinach).

If I'm eating out I usually order something I'm not going to fuss over making at home. I like my own hamburgers, steaks, chops, chicken, etc.

I'm a slow eater, and I can't eat much all at once, so those lunches of a cup of soup or small salad and half a sandwich (maybe egg or tuna salad on whole wheat) are *plenty* for me. I never have room for the 'sides' of slaw or fries or chips.
