Comments (185)Flowersaremusic I agree with you on above climate ect. Mine was nine years old and had not been nearly as beautiful as usual for the last 2 maybe 3 years. I decided to dig it up at the end of this year and replace it. Is was full of disease with very small flowers. while digging part of the crown broke off. I reached down and pushed on more of the crown that part broke off. No wonder the poor rose was looking poorly as the crown was in decay. I could also see that it was grafted since I plant those on a angle. In my wetter environment and needing to bury grafts that the grafted area eventually rots away and effects the crown. Could also be affected by below zero weather. I'm also considering applying more fertilizer. Sort of thinking that some continuous bloom roses could use more than what I give them. Felt so bad taking out the old rose. Happy now that it is done and a fresh new beauty will be coming....See MoreFoliage before the spring flush
Comments (11)All American Magic. Crazy 65mph gusts actually threw these huge pots across the yard a couple of weeks ago. I'm lucky the pots didn't break. This rose responded with even more buds! Earlier this spring the foliage was so dark purple it almost looked black. Now it's a lovely green. Falstaff has some of my favorite foliage. It starts off burgundy and emerald green, then turns a rich, dark blue green. The buds and sepals are just perfect too. (Wavy leaves of Young Lycidas in the background on some of the Falstaff photos, and more Lacy Phacelia) More Falstaff with Iceberg on large obelisks. Nepeta, thyme, lacy Phacelia and freesia in there too. See all those buds? :-) Not a rose, but I enjoy this foliage too. Meyer lemon. I think the foliage has curled because of all the rain... but not sure. It will be just fine though. Look at all the blooms and buds....See MoreBetter late than never. My garden 2019, 3rd year.
Comments (61)Summers that DOES sound like a dream home for sure. That is going to be spectacular. You can set up a green house and have all kinds of awesome things also in there. What a lovely place that is going to be. I am super excited for you. Vapor unfortunately Kew gardens does get BS here when I don’t spray. To be fair it keeps blooming and I do not think 🤔 i has completely defoliated but not clean like Darlow’s enigma. It has few thorns and it forms a very nicely shaped bush. I will stop spraying it and see what happens and report back. (I have quit spraying certain roses to test them in order to determine if they will qualify to be added to my no spray small garden at the lake). So far spirit of freedom, Olivia, Bathsheba, Claire, Wollerton old hall, Emily, Roal Dahl and Wedgwood are clean enough to get a spot. I much as I love gardening I can barely keep up with one so the other place needs to be lower maintenance....See MoreSarah z8
