Yellow exteriors can be a challenge.

What do you mean by not TOO yellow?

I have samples of york harbor yellow, roasted sesame seed and marblehead gold (all BM) on my shed. None are quite right, so I'm starting to think about concord ivory or desert tan. Do you think that could give me the look of yellow without being too bright? Thanks!

I love yellow houses. Check out this blog showing a variety of yellow houses. Unfortunately, the paint colors aren't given. The writer painted her house Benjamin Moore's Corinthian White, which is a very pale yellow. It's shown on one of the blog pages.

Thanks Beaniebakes. Her house is lovely, I think I want a bit more of a yellow punch- it's tough to know if it's going to look nice and subtle or like big bird. Our house has a lot of mass and not a ton of trees around as well. I'm almost doubting my yellow dreams, but something about the house tells me it wants to be yellow or gold :)

Body in SW 2857 Peace Yellow, Scallop work in HC-12 Concord Ivory and all the trim in OC-92 Mannequin Cream. Porch ceiling in a light periwinkle Haint Blue.

I love them too, but there are a few in my town that look very wrong, and I don't want to join the club! ha

Barley 199 is the closest but Peace Yellow works better with Concord Ivory.

Yeah, each brand has a limited number of 'good' exterior yellows. I'd actually recommend buying the colors in their home brand and not having the color matched. It is extra work, but I think it's worth it.

Love the style of your house! Found this picture with an example of different colored painted houses, side by side. Love the yellow one with the red accents.

Here is a pic of an 1883 "painted lady" I did a few years ago. The siding was a creamy yellow with white trim and forest green and dark magenta highlights.

I've got chips of the colors suggested and they do look very harmonious- My painter is picking up a sample of peace yellow for us to try and I can't wait to check it all out together. I'd like to choose a dark color for the foundation, and possibly an accent. Would a dark gray make sense? I'm drawn to deep plum, but not sure my husband would agree. Thanks again for your feedback :)

I'm a fan of painting the foundation the same color as the body of the house.

As far as accent, I wouldn't overcomplicate the color palette and/or placement. Keeping it simple is usually best. Maybe save the accent color for the front door.
