Need help choosing exterior color scheme
Comments (4)I'm hesitant to comment since I usually only come to this forum for advice. I don't have decorating talent but I do have an older lake cottage in MN and it is painted green. We used BM Saybrook Sage with Louisburg green trim and black forest green and a rust/red color as accents. The green DOES blend in with the trees and grass. We don't mind and we did have a builder stop and ask what colors we used but it is a mellow effect and it won't necessarily show off your property. You don't mention what color your stonework will be on the house. I don't know if green is going to go with a lot of natural stone colors. You might want to try to work with a body color that complements the mortar and stone and save the high impact color for your trim and accents. I have a stucco house and wanted more of a "stoneish" color and went with BM Saint Martin Sand wiht Driftscape tan and pueblo Brown trim and accent. The colors are reflective of colors and tones found in our brick and mortar so it works well. Definately not for everyone but I offer it up as a different direction to think about that is not cream....See MoreNeed help picking exterior color scheme
Comments (11)I totally agree with what everyone has already said. It just can't be "part Craftsman, part Farmhouse". Sort of like breeding a Cocker Spaniel with a Great Dane - you end up with a hot mess! I love the slightly industrial or vintage look of black steel windows. In fact, if I could have afforded it, I would have changed my kitchen bay to a box bay done with black steel windows. Alas, my money tree is looking pretty puny these days! What I did do, was paint the mullions/muntins of my existing bay black...but ONLY on the inside. The outside is white as are all my windows. In driving around, I'm seeing more and more people painting their exterior windows black - all on very traditional houses, mainly Cape's. Frankly, it looks ridiculous. With new windows, you are getting a factory finish so those windows will not need repainting for decades, if ever. The black exterior window fade is going to fade very quickly and then you'll be stuck. At 73 and having lived in the Midwest most of my life, I'm very familiar with what a farmhouse looks like and I've NEVER seen one with black exterior windows! Go with the simple and the pure and you won't have a dated looking house in 10-15 years. You can go trendy inside with color, easily replaceable, lower cost items....See MoreDesperately need help selecting exterior paint colour scheme
Comments (0)As you can see, the exterior of our house needs repainting. It is happening next week and seeing as though it is an expensive task that I have to live with for a long time, I would appreciate any advice/suggestions on colours. Because I like colorbond ocean blue and I do live at the beach, I was thinking of it for the roof gutters and I would like the house in a light/white colour. The colours I have considered are surfmist, white dune half, and white duck quarter (paint has to be dulux). I have absolutely no idea and I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions on the colours. My house is approx 20 years old with beige window frames, so should they be matched? The front door will be replaced eventually but not this minute. Thank you....See More1970’s lake house exterior remodel- need help picking color scheme
Comments (3)Back of home, during construction. There will be another deck between the white siding and sunroom windows. Under the deck will be closed in and made into a shed. We'll need to decide what kind of siding and what colors we'll use for that....See MoreAnna (6B/7A in MD)
