My life changes tomorrow
Comments (32)Stressful but now good! The movers didn't show up at their house until 6:30 pm, got here at 8:30 pm, it took to midnight to put beds and crib together, the whole time the little one's were wide awake! Me? I went to bed at 11:00. :) One of the motto's of the moving people says "We are on time. Always." Riiight. DH got up at 6, then the grands woke up (he never thought about the 2 yr. old having a fully loaded diaper, LOL), and bless his heart he started cooking breakfast for everyone. DS is now up, DIL is sleeping. I think everyone may take a long nap today. So far lots of laughter and cursing about the moving guys being 10 hours late! All eleven living things are accounted for! I do worry about the grands not quite grasping why they won't be going back to their house anymore....See MoreA listing in my area - billed as Cape Cod style
Comments (17)The recent residents of the house are renters who have been there for two years. It may be their furnishings and that might be why there isn't much on the walls. With the high ceilings in many rooms, that house has a lot of large wall expanses. Dedtired, the house is more blue than gray. Yes, the designation seemed off to me - I'm glad so many of you confirm it. I wonder if that's the real estate agent's idea of Cape Cod or the owner's. Gooster, not just a barrier island but so little working room around the cooktop on it. I guess the peninsula is the landing spot for the ovens but it doesn't seem very convenient. And anyone using the cooktop will be in the way of anyone wanting water from the sink. I've been trying to figure out why the cabinet area in the living room bugs me. It doesn't seem to fit. Perhaps because it looks more like a big bathroom vanity than a wet bar (which is, I assume, the intended use). What could be done to make that go better? Perhaps start with taking off the mirrors. It looks like there is no way to close off any of the public rooms from the others - entry, kitchen, breakfast nook and family room are all very open to each other and to the upper hall. It doesn't look like there are doors to close off the living room and dining room either but perhaps that could be added....See MoreCape style home Curb appeal needed, located in New England
Comments (5)Good morning Marissa, Your property has a lot of potential. There are several projects that can add to the beauty and functionality of the property. I would advise spreading the projects over 2-3 years, depending on your available funds. Have you considered budgets for the possible improvements? If you are able to do so, post measurements of your property, including boundaries, structures, doors, stoops, existing patios, large trees, and basement windows. If you do this, I and others will be able to help create possible design layouts....See MoreHow can I bring my home to current style without changing furniture?
Comments (25)Your house is not dated. It looks fresh, and there are only a few tweaks I see, as others have noted. Something more colorful for rugs. The overhead lights could be switched out for more flair. I'd find a single art piece for behind the sofa, something with a bit more drama - I was going to say color, but if you'd prefer, a black and white piece would go there well, if it stood out more. I am NOT one for low artwork behind furniture - but in this case with that window above, I think the art does call for being lower. (Why I am not, generally-speaking, a fan? 1) Navel-height art fails to appeal to me, and 2) people leaning back on couches will likely bang or brush their heads on the art.) I'd switch the two chairs in the living room. Stair railing: I am fine with it as is, or stain it a bit darker (do not paint). As for paint color for the walls - nothing ever looks the same on a monitor as in person, but what you already have appears to work (and you'd be doing a LOT of painting if you do decide to change the color. Get samples, paint a board or spare bit of sheet rock. I like the fish tank - painting that might be worthwhile....See MoreMrs. S
