Beautiful, but as the happy new owner of a 1980 architectural creation of glass and light, going through my first winter is a real reality check of heating and electricity bills. The challenge is winterize, winterize and get that home generator - never mind those cocktails on the veranda.

@gnumedia the windows on the market today are vastly more insulated than they were in the 1980s. That may be your best bet for winterizing, though it is a costly one.

If you've got the bucks to pull off this kind of place then you simple MUST aim for a Net-Zero energy footprint if you are going to build in such an ecologically sensitive zone. Geothermal, solar and maybe even a wind generator would do it.
