My Knockout Rose Bushes- Did I kill my rose bushes?
Comments (2)Right, don't fertilize until they have recovered and have put out plenty of leaves. Bloom Buster is the wrong kind of fertilizer--regular Miracle Gro or Miracle Gro for Roses is fine, or any reasonably balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 18-6-12. Watering correctly is the most important thing. Keep a 2" mulch of leaves or bark around the roses. When the soil under the mulch feels dry-ish, water thoroughly with 2-3 gallons for small plants or 5 gallons for larger, plus or minus for extremely hot or very mild, cloudy weather. Usually once a week is fine. For new plants, I divide the ration in half and water twice a week....See Moredead rose bushes
Comments (3)Some roses have a limited life span. Any rose that is grafted is going to have a difficult time in Texas. However, the antique roses, own-root roses, many David Austin roses, and roses bred by the Antique Rose Emporium or by Texas A&M should do well, with the proper soil and watering for the first two years. After that, they should do well on their own, with the exception of severe drought. Have you tried posting a query on the rose forum at this website? There are many rose growers there who would gladly share their experiences and knowledge....See MoreMy first Lilac Bush ... Dead buds? Normal buds? (pics included)
Comments (13)I love lilacs, but I don't have a place for any bushes that need sun. Instead, I have been boldly lingering at others properties and burying my face in the flowers with a silly smile on my face. Please enjoy and post a picture when it blooms! Ken, those bushes can barely hold those blooms! What a great Spring display....See MoreI need to replace dead bushes with something else. Oso Easy Roses?
Comments (15)I am not sure if you can get the Shield Rose where you live. This one has survived everything that is thrown at it. I never got around to covering it up for the winter. due to going for therapy on a pulled muscle in my arm and upper thigh. I was afraid it had gone but like wow they all survived but one. Here is one of my Shield or there is the gorgeous Chinook Sunrise. Was having issues but you should see it this year and I never got to cover it up as well. This shield rose is awesome!!! Hah one lady said I should cut it back as I wouldn't get any roses on it. Well it made a liar out of her as it did indeed get roses on it all kinds of beautiful red ones. Even had a bout with the sawfly larvae which I ended up taking out my stool and a measuring cup of hot water and dish detergent and picking them off it by hand. Then when finished I threw the water over our wooden fence with them in it. :) I live north of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. Have yet to see the flowers on the chinook as they were all finished with for the season when I bought it from our nearby garden centre. But have seen pictures of them online. Have yet to see any buds on the shield or the chinook....See Morejacqueline9CA
