Are these Lilac Buds Forming? PICS
Comments (5)you can tell it is in too much shade... from the tree casting the shadow .. and by the fact that it is lusher way up .. as compared to below .... hit the link.. and review some of those articles on RENOVATING A LILAC ... and then.. if you have more specific questions.. feel free to come back.. and if you do.. have a better picture of the entire ground and the first 3 feet of the bush ... and we might help you select which to remove in toto .. but that will not fix the shade problem ... how many hours of full sunlight will it get when reduced in size???? this is very common.. where trees and shrubs.. 20. 30.. years ago.. were planted and co-existed nicely ... and then as the tree takes over and gives its wonderful shade .... the shrubs start to decline ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link...See Morewhat's on my rose buds?
Comments (6)Hmmm...not had problems with them on bearded iris. Guess I provide them with too many roses to devour. They are making a mess of my SA. It's their prime target. They're hitting roses this year they never touched before...like Soutine & Carefree Wonder. They'll even eat daylilies and they have shredded the pink loosestrife...there's NOTHING left of the plants. It looks absolutely gross now. Guess I'll prune it to the ground. It's too bad because the bumblebees really love the stuff. Stupid, despicable JBs....See MoreNormal Metasequoia dormant bud and twig appearance
Comments (6)Is yours also just one season old, toronado? Mine were still mostly green, with only some lower/interior foliage taking on autumn color, when the hard freeze hit. Initially I thought the foliage was toast, but it actually survived, but then turned to fall color almost as soon as they thawed out, albeit a muted and somewhat "washed out" color, probably from some level of freeze damage to the foliage. However, the color lasted maybe one day and most of the foliage dropped off the second day, except a few stragglers that are still clinging on. As a side note, a lot of trees around here (of various species) that still had leaves at that time of the hard freeze, are still hanging onto dead leaves that are only just now dropping, even some trees that were still mostly GREEN at the time. The freeze was so sudden I don't think the abcission layer developed properly. This post was edited by hairmetal4ever on Sun, Nov 30, 14 at 22:06...See MoreMy Baby Evelyn Already Has Buds!
Comments (35)Sultry, those are beautiful pictures and luscious blooms. That really makes me look forward to when my babies finally have flowers. Jerome, how lovely that you could visit. It would be wonderful to see pictures of your garden as it is now. Mine has gone through rough times, with rabbits eating all my irises and every other companion plant, and all the roses as far up as they can reach, but now, with a rainy winter season and the introduction of some perennials that the rabbits don't like as much, the situation is improving. Global warming has not done my garden any favors, but I'm not alone in that. So many gardens will be permanently altered, but all we can do is try to adapt. We're fortunate that there are some roses that don't mind the heat, and one learns to think about positioning much more, with morning sun and afternoon shade the gold standard of the rose world, at least in hotter climates. hoovb, I received my two Evelyns as bare roots from Austin in Texas, and I was very satisfied with the quality of the plants I received, and the subsequent rapid growth. flowers, I generally buy own-root but Evelyn hasn't been that easy to find, and I'm glad you haven't noticed much different between own-root and grafted. It sounds as though Evelyn has passed the heat test in your garden. noseometer, Evelyn was planted with added bagged soil and is mulched with wood chips from a tree that was chopped down in our yard, as are all the roses, so hopefully it will do well. I'll be sure to water it well, and I'll even talk to it nicely. I very much want Evelyn to be happy and bloom its head off....See MoreRoxana *** ZN 5 Indianapolis IN ***
