Daybed vs/ sofabed
Comments (9)I am also debating the sofa bed vs. daybed thing for the loft room in our condo. Or maybe I should just go with air mattresses for the occasional extra bed. I managed to forget about this for a few months so I'm glad the topic was brought back to my attention. Summer & extra guests are just around the corner. Have you seen the Simplicity sofa website? I am not affiliated with this company, I only offer the idea to you for your research. They have sofa beds with blow up mattresses, which really intrigues me. And their sofas arrive in pieces so it would be easy to carry & set up, unlike the heaviness of a real sofa bed. But how do they hold up? I don't know anyone with direct experience with them. Now that I'm thinking about it again I should search this site for any comments from prior customers. When one of my friends visits her family, she sleeps on an inflatable sofa bed & says it's very comfortable. She and her husband sleep on it for 1-2 months at a time so it must be okay. I don't know if the one she uses is from Simplicity Sofas or another mfg. What concerns me is that when I've slept on an air mattress, on the floor not as part of a sofa bed, I found them very cold & uncomfortable. A real sofa bed is better looking but much more expensive and in addition is very heavy to carry upstairs to the loft room. And are they more comfortable? I'll never sleep in it but I want the guests to be comfortable. But not too comfortable or they'll never leave. Now you can see why I put this out of my mind! Bottom line for me is looks-wise a sofa bed, with a real or inflatable mattress, does look the best in a room that isn't a dedicated guest room....See Morespare bedroom twin or daybed?
Comments (30)DancingQueen, If you like the one with circles, here is a similar one from Allbed, in metal instead of wood: I don't like the higher arm that the metal one has but it still has a different look than the typical daybed. I think the lower arms and back is what makes the West Elm daybed look so refreshing. Most daybeds being sold look like baby cribs: This one I imagined was Martha Stewart's prison cell - standard issue cot with pillows added to soften the harsh angles, probably embroidered with dental floss. The other popular style daybeds have is the barn animal feed bin look: And then of course the hospital exam table look: If the daybed will be used as a sofa more often than as a bed for sleeping try getting one that is not twin size, but rather a cot size. It will be more comfortable for seating and still double as a bed for an overnight guest, and not take up so much floor space in a tiny room. This Harry Probber cot sized daybed is not as deep as a twin size. This one here also is a cot size and make seating easier but the cool thing about it is that it opens to form a much larger bed: The bed I posted earlier a few posts back not only is a single size daybed but converts to a queens size sleeping arrangement OR two singles. Plenty of options for overnight guests....See MoreMoral support -buying a new bed
Comments (34)" If the house doesn't make sense for where you've been -- I would try to start making the house make sense for the future you want or are most likely to have."- that's an amazing sentence. thank you! Together with that -I also was sure that "if..." "i would". It appears it doesn't exactly work this way. when "if" comes. It's a pretty small house. The guests will be well taken care of..let them come to visit first lol. To make the house into the place that will be constantly visited-is my wishful thinking at this point. My relatives live across the States, and the majority of them-across the Pacific. They come much less often that I'd want them too. Same with the majority of our friends. When they come they'll be ok with the arrangement. I'm good at making guests comfortable. I'm not good in thousand other things, but I'm good in that. I've been constantly dreaming about how people come and visit. My places used to be brimming with guests. Life changes. To cater to the future guests even MORE than I already plan to-now that would be preparing for the future I am not that likely to have.. While DD will come at least on some weekends, vacations, summers, etc. For another several years. I know her..she's a "home sweet home" type. I was much more ..let's say bohemian than her-and I still would come home often when in college. If she brings a beau who won't be comfortable in a full bed-well then we'll start solving this problem as it comes)) I also have a son who's still in HS..got him a daybed. An "adult" looking one..)) In short. I did buy the bed. It was the last day of the sale, I got nervous it's slipping away...I thought about it for two weeks n a row before making a decision-a sign that it has a staying potential. If it won't arrive damaged of course. It will take another 3-4 weeks until they deliver it. And also-I felt strangely empowered by this thread..even though the majority of people suggested other great options. I thought more about the room and proportions and how the furniture will stand there and everything. Was able to think clearer. Which happens when you have a good discussion. Thank you very much everybody. I did not have the best day yesterday. Beds don't help us with that lol. Whether we buy them or not. But people..people do....See MoreDoes anyone know where I can find a sofa/chaise/daybed like this?
