New screen porch: I'd like your ideas on finishing
Comments (14)I will definitely be putting: string lights, an outdoor rug, some curtains, etc. I already have that mosaic table, and a colorful banner. Now, they already put a clear sealant on the wood. The color isn't my favorite but I may leave it that color for now and see if I can live with it. I do like the red color of the wood they used for the trim. I may paint the roof blue. And possibly stain the concrete. Am also thinking of a gel pad under the rug (the kind sold for where people stand a lot) for an exercise/aerobics area. Concrete by itself is a bit too hard on my knees. And maybe a small water garden or feature. This post was edited by Violet.West on Sun, Feb 2, 14 at 15:47...See MoreMattress/ cushion for Daybed with rounded edges
Comments (1)I ordered a custom wrapped foam mattress for an outdoor swinging bed. It's about 6" and you can order different thickness, width, etc Linked story below, sources I ordered from are at the bottom - I shopped around and both were best prices online, also less than purchasing locally. It arrived folded in a box, but fluffed out within 24 hours. It is very comfortable. While I used outdoor/DryFast foam, you won't have to so it would cost less. I had the cover made by a different company. Here is a link that might be useful: Swinging Porch Beds...See MoreCan I put a daybed in a living space? (pics included)
Comments (10)Let me clarify a few things about the space. First we rarely sit over there. The sectional in the living room right next to it is normally where we sit. When guests come over, usually everyone is in the dining room or hanging our around the kitchen island. Second, that space in the front porch area is what everyone sees when you first walk in the house. I am more looking for aesthetics, but if I could pull off something like a daybed in the space that could do double duty it would be better. I initially wanted a loveseat, but was thinking maybe I could use a daybed, and store the toys underneath. Third, I have a console table. It is currently in my bedroom. There is no way I can anchor it, and with my crawling 1 year old who pulls himself up on to furniture, it wasn't safe there. I am worried it will tip. Fourth, we rarely have overnight guests. Usually it it DH's college aged twin brothers that will crash on our couch after watching some sort of sport, I doubt they would mind they didn't have their "own" room when staying over. I don't really care that its a bed, or it's awkward to sit at, since we rarely sit there. I'm really just wondering if you all think it will look weird there, since it is open to my living room. I have been stumped for 3 years on how to deal with this area of my house. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is the bed I want to get: Here is a link that might be useful: Ballard Daybed...See MoreUsing a day bed as a sofa...
Comments (39)Well, changing linens won't be that much of an issue, since it might get slept on maybe twice a year....but I do wonder if the back on the Overstock one is just too high. I have now realized that the "day bed" in the inspiration pic isn't even a day bed after all! Just a regular twin bed. I still want a day bed. This may be my late summer/early fall project. This house was reno'd 7 years ago and we just threw stuff in the room without much thought. Now my wheels are turning... of course I'll need a different (taller) table and a new rug and and funky floor lamp or wall sconce...and of course tons of pillows....See MoreRelated Professionals
