Dilemma...Inset Window blinds / Double hung windows
Comments (2)I have no idea which windows have what clearance, but if you do have to go with something that's smaller clearance, I can tell you what I did. My windows have 1 3/8 inch within the frame (Anderson). I used 1 inch wood blinds from Bali with an inside mount and 3/8 inch double cellular blinds. The 1 inch wood blinds works as far as the slats go, but the header does stick out, enough that it bothers me and I plan to cover it with a fabric valance. The cellular blinds fit perfectly and I like them much more, they are light weight and very easy to open/close compared to the heavy wood blinds. I have no idea how Roman shades would work. There's no way I could have fit 2" wood blinds on my windows with an inside mount with the clearance I have. I do like an inside mount, hopefully you can find a window set deep enough to let you have the blinds you like!...See MoreOdd number of windows design dilemma
Comments (5)Bumping, but for me, I would do 2 shades. That way each "section" will be even and look more deliberate...the shades will be what people see and I would want 2 the same rather than 3 that are 2 different sizes......See MoreWindow dressing dilemma for a Palladium Window.
Comments (5)I would remove the sheers so you have an open view and light during the day. Is it even necessary to have any window treatment? It doesn't look like privacy is an issue. If you do want something for night, I would use drapes that you can close when needed, with a rod mounted just under the crown molding, like this photo....See MoreHunter Douglas Roller Screen Shades - Color dilemma
Comments (2)Thank you, Patricia. This is a large window in a studio apartment that is occupied part time. It is the only window in the unit and gets direct sunlight most of the day. So the unit can get quite warm, but more importantly for us is that our furniture is starting to fade (we have had Hunter Douglas Honeycomb shades for the last 6 years). We want to install the room darkening (0% opacity) shade so we can close it up completely and protect our furniture and flooring when we are not there and for privacy at night. The second shade (5% opacity) that we are looking at would be for use during the day when we are there and need to cut the sun's rays (still to protect the furniture) without obliterating our view. Because of the strong sun through this window (almost all day long), we were advised not to go with greater than 5% opacity. We are okay with the idea of 5% opacity if it is in one of the darker colors (since we can see the view through those), but are wondering how one of the darker colors will look when closed during the day in the rest of the space whose walls are a cream/antique white color. At night, it could be up so you don't necessarily see the dark color against the light colored walls. Have you used the 10% solar shades in rooms that get strong direct sunlight most of the day? Which colors have you used? Would you have any tips on how to choose the color? Thank you again!...See Morelaughablemoments
