Which would you buy? Dual fuel range
Comments (3)If you are looking to stay within a budget, I'd give up the Dual Fuel range, and get an All Gas range instead. A lot more bang for the buck, since the all-gas ranges are significantly less expensive than the dual fuel. And it's a myth that electric ovens bake better than gas. That used to be the case years ago with older gas ovens with poor insulation and less precise temperature control. Hasn't been the case though since the 80's. I had an electric oven in my last home, and a gas oven now, and I can bake everything just as well if not better. Furthermore, meats come out better in a gas oven. Also, if you do not have the electric wireing for the dual fuel, that wiring could be expensive too....See More36' Induction Cooktop - which would you buy? What about frameless
Comments (30)I've been cooking on my Diva 36 inch for 5 months and really like it. I've had great results. It's very powerful and I have to remember to keep the heat on lower settings in order not to burn my food. It delivers more heat than I had expected. I only put it on full power if I need to quickly bring something to a boil. Then, I turn it down to actually cook what I intend to cook. It brings water to a boil quickly. I'm so happy I don't have to clean grill grates...did that for years and hated it. I'm very pleased with the Diva so far. I bought a large set of Al clad pans at Macy's for $420. I think the best set of pans that I found were at William Sonoma. They were the brushed nickel pans made for induction. However, they were around $800 for the set. I also picked up a few no name brands pots from TJ Max and Home Goods. They seems to work just as well as the all clad for boiling pasta etc. I definitely think it's worth the investment to buy a really good non-stick frying pan. Macy's also has a set of pans made specifically for induction that were priced less than $300....See MoreWhich would you buy if you were on a budget?
Comments (8)Definitely go secondhand. I could buy new, but I've bought all my dining room furniture through eBay and Craigslist. People are constantly buying and purging, so I was able to get a 6-month-old Crate & Barrel table for less than half its original price. I also got six matching Pottery Barn chairs for about 1/4 of their original price, and they were barely used. You can set up a search in eBay and get e-mails whenever a new item matching your search is listed. Just indicate in your search that you want items you can pick up in your local area, so you don't pay for shipping. I also check Craigslist daily, just because! I guess "the hunt" is part of the fun :)...See MoreWhich would you buy? Bosch or Miele?
Comments (28)dmeah, sounds like you are falling for the idea that paying more means you are less likely to need a repair. Consider that the lower priced Bosch probably outsell Miele several times (or more ) over. Even seeing a fraction of the number of complaints for the more expensive brand doesn't necessarily equate to a lower ratio of units sold to problems. Higher prices should balance out with a higher overall quality, but as you said, they all have issues. I think you'll be happy with Miele or anything in the top half of the Bosch lineup (the lower portion they put out a few years back to compete with other more modestly priced units did seem to have more complaints -- at least back then). Your reasons may differ, but for me, to pay enough more for one as it would cost me to replace the other unit completely out of warranty (or in my case a second DW and a micro drawer), I'd need something I'd definitely need and use in the meantime -- racking options, wash features -- something tangible. Especially since I've used two Bosch units for 8+ years and been very happy with the cleaning and how quiet they are. (In case you want to feel better putting that money elsewhere)...See Moreamykath
