Cruise director, Thanks for the nudge in the "Dual Fuel" direction. [I used Kenmore Pro range in a search query but didn't come up with much.] We looked at the GE Cafe and it's still in the running. One concern that came up time and again is the heat issue on the control knobs. My wife often bakes while using the cook-top and I hope the complaints about "burning hot metal control knobs" is an exaggeration. The smaller oven below is certainly a plus. We also looked at the Electrolux, but the reviews were either extraordinary or "lemon-esque" with a relatively equal balance. So right now "the Bosch and Kenmore are neck and neck with the Cafe a half length behind."

Hi again. Yes, I agree with mary in nc...that this has been a headache dealing with this Thermador. HOWEVER, I must say, and I think any of you that have had to deal with any warranty issues will understand this: when you call for warranty work, 99.9% of the time you are at the mercy of the warranty coordinator. They choose 'who' comes to fix your machine. The person that shows up 'may' know about your range/dw/etc...or not. I have had so many people show up to fix this Thermador that had NEVER worked on one before and thought it would be exactly like a Wolf or Viking, but it's not. I think I just had incompetent reparimen over 75% of the time. So, I've decided to do what mary in nc and weissman have suggested: set the money aside for the time being and 'see' how things go through the holidays. If I have ONE issue that is new, I will sell this thing. If I have a repeat issue, then I will call the guy I trust first. If he doesn't satisfy me, then it's outta' here as soon as possible. I don't have the time to keep messing around with faulty appliances.

Bosch!! Hands Down this was our choice for a new range. I researched on Epinions.com too. I urge you to check this out because this really helped me choose my range. What do I love about my Bosch Dual Fuel Intrega 700??? I love the heavy grates. You can put them in the Bosch dishwasher to clean them. Awesome for me. Easy to clean and they look bran new after a wash. I love the large knobs and the look of stainless and black. I love the convection oven options, the dehydration for fruit or meat options, I like the racks and how they pull out very far for me to baste, marinate or check over stuff. I like the warming drawer to keep stuff warm for a busy family. I lvoe the quick convection broil, or conv bake or just regular bake. I love how fast my burners boil water. We were staying at a friends ski lodge over MLKing holiday. They have an old stove in their place that was so slow by the time it boiled water I did not feel like hot chocolate anymore. I realized how fast my range is. It heats so fast if you do not have all your ingredients ready to go you need to turn the burner off. I love the time cook plan and the auto on or off. I like how fast the oven warms up. My son prefers to cook his snacks in the Oven and used to be a Micro only kid for his corn dogs, nachos, hot pockets, bagels bites.... I don't like the gas on glass feature. I am told it is easier to clean than a stainless with gas grates. However glass really is a pain to clean because you have the burners to content with. BUT, the sealed burners are wonderful. If you have ever had food boil over onto a burner you know too well the horror that is to clean and make the burner funciton again. But the sealed burners mean when hot melted velvetta cheese boils over because your dimwit daughter wasn't paying attention it can not ruin the burner. My daughter never has to worry about boiling over velvetta cheese again because Bosch has this cool opti simmer burner. It doesn't boil over. Well, lets just say she can text, listen to music and be distracted from cooking and the cheese has not boiled over yet. I love my Bosch. It has been a year and wow this is an amazing range. My DH is a Bosch fan. He knows nothing about kitchens, but he is a car guy. And Bosch is German made. DH loves BMW. So when we were searching he felt the German made brand was going to be a great ride. Tight around the corners, sleek, handles well and is reliable. The Bosch is not a car but it is desingned like it is. You will love it too. ~boxerpups

The Wolf gas range does not have the blue interior and does not have the chipping. We bought Wolf for their supposed "great service" but were very disappointed. There are definite differences in gas and electric ovens. Of course you can bake in both of them, but some people might have a preference for one or the other. Gas ovens produce water as a byproduct of combustion but they have more ventilation so moisture from combustion and what you are cooking vent out so gas is more drying heat. You also will get more heat and moisture dumped into your kitchen. Electric heat does not produce moisture but tends to hold onto humidity from what you cook so are more humid. This will have some effect on what you are baking. The added moisture promotes starch gelatinization so may allow a little longer rise in things like bread or cakes. It also affects the crust. The electric ovens will hold onto added moisture that you might add while baking bread. You can use a cloche to keep moisture around your bread in a gas oven. A gas oven because it is drying promotes the Maillard reaction and therefore browning. This is why many like it for roasting. Drying is also good at the end of baking so that you get that browning which contributes to flavor. If you have an electric oven with convection, you can use the fan when you need the drying effect of more air movement. Electric ovens are as freidajune says can be more complex. They might have additional elements that can direct the heat, more from the top(for roasting) or bottom and may have elements in the back that are in theory supposed to provide more even heat when the oven is full. Some ovens have a variable speed with the fan but very few actually mention this in their manuals. They can also have little oddities in the way they work. You might consider the broiler. Some gas ovens have an infrared broiler which can be very small. I tend to broil trays of things so like a wider electric broiler. Regular gas broilers don't get as hot because the heat goes up.
