Which dual fuel range??? Bosch Pro vs Kenmore Pro

We were going to purchase the "Bosch Pro dual fuel slide-in" but then ran across the Kenmore Pro Free-standing (also a dual fuel range). The Bosch has the "warming drawer" but which is the better, more durable range? My wife takes her "cooking seriously" so I would appreciate your experiences and thoughts on the matter.

[ point of reference: I would consider the more expensive ranges (Viking, Dacor, Wolf, etc.), but have not been encourgaed by the reviews and experiences of others. ]

1. You will have better luck posting this in the appliance forum.

2. CR has tested thermador,viking,and dacor and given them bad reliablity reviews. Those brands/companies get bad reliabilty reveiws in general.

2. Dual fuel adds complexity & expense,and therefore adds to the probability of expensive repair.

3. The general consensus confirmed by my experience is that electric ovens are best for baking and gas ovens are best for roasting/broiling meats.

4. Ideal situation if space and budget permits is an all gas range with an electric wall oven.If you had sky is the limit budget and space I guess a gas rangetop/cooktop with an electric wall oven plus an additional gas wall oven would be culinary Nirvanna.

5. I have two sisters that did major kitchen renovations within the last five years. Purchased big wall ovens along with cooktop or range then do most of their oven cooking in a toaster oven because they don't want to waste time and energy turning on the big ovens. Dumb Dumb Dumb.

6. I am purchasing a 30" all gas range and a 24" electric wall oven. A Bluestar range. I already purchased the Gaggenau 24" oven.

7.To make it easier for people to give opinions find out who makes the Kenmore. GE,LG,Whirlpool,Frigidaire?

8.My first thought is to go with Bosch. Bosch is the least expensive in the BSH empire along with Siemens,Smeg,Thermador,and Gaggenau. Kinda like buying the least expensive house in an upscale neighborhood. Usually get good value that way.

So I'll update this, as we still haven't made a decision. Induction: I bought an induction burner and like it, although it isn't as life-changing as I sort of expected. (I realize the power is much lower than a range or cooktop would be.) We also had an electrician examine our house, and he thinks we can put one in. My dad (also an electrician) and husband agree we should do a max load test before we put 40 or more amps on the panel, though. (Long story short: we have a 200 amp breaker but 100 amps coming into the house, so we need to put in a smaller breaker.) So it's still a bit up in the air. Gas/dual-fuel: I went to look at the Aga Legacy today and really liked it. I'm also going to look at a Lacanche soon, at a Lacanche ambassador's house. Both of those are, frankly, more than I wanted to pay, but I really love the looks and some of the features a lot (ovens on the Aga, simmer plate and large burner on the Lacanche). I've also considered a BlueStar or Big Chill Pro Style (rebadged BlueStar), but there isn't one local to me. The price, features, and availability of the color finish are good, but I'm a little nervous about all the issues people have had. I think I've looked at nearly every option out there, but I'd love to hear more if anyone has ideas!

andiswife-I have a GE Cafe dual fuel range, and I love it. It has a huge oven and I have not had any problems with any of the burners. Yes, there is an oven fan that comes on, but to me anyway, it not that annoying, and it has never blown out the back burners. This range also sat in my garage for over 1 year before it was installed and it has always worked perfectly. I love the power boil and it simmers and I truly mean simmers. The thing with the griddle is that to use the griddle, you have to take off the grate. I tried to cook on the griddle with the grate on and I did take forever and did not heat up very well, but once I read the owners manual and it said to take off the grate, it was perfect. I have seen on this forum and on the kitchen forum complaints and boasting about every appliance manufacturer, so I guess you should just take everything with a grain of salt. Yes, I would buy a GE Cafe range again. I also purchased the GE Cafe vent hood, and I must say it is very quiet on low and med low. Does start to get loud on med hi and hi. Just my opinion.

We put in a Bosch dual-fuel range when we built our house six years ago, for exactly the reasons you have made this choice. I read lots of reviews and thought about it hard. I was happy to see that someone here liked theirs. I have been very disappointed, and wonder if we just got a lemon. We are about to replace it. The burners don't get very hot, even the high BTU one, nor do they get very low. Thus it takes forever to boil a big pot of water, and in order to have something on simmer where there's no bubbling at all, I need to use one of those heat diffusers on the burner. I thought it might be a propane vs. natural gas problem, but the plumber and appliance guys assured me this was not it. The oven does not cook evenly side to side. I have to rotate cookie sheets and the like to get even heating. On the plus side, the controls are intuitive and easy to use. And I love the extra stuff like dehydrating and warming. Now I have to start shopping all over again for another stove. Phooey. Good luck and I hope it was just a lemon issue for us.

I had a Bosch range in my last house. Bosch is generally a great product. All our appliances were Bosch. We had a Dual Fuel slide in Bosch range. It had some issues. While we only had to have it repaired once under warranty I would not get another. Cons... 1) It would get stuck on, and the only way to shut it off was to turn it to high and then lower it to get the fan to kick on. Annoying. 2) The Fan is really LOUD. 3) Another negative is there was too much space between the grates and one of my tiny pots would tip over when sliding it across the grates. 4) We had gas on glass but it was NOT easier to clean. In fact it was probably more challenging because the burners were not sealed so food would get down inside. You could turn it on high and burn it off. 5) The glass window into the oven could not be cleaned. It just frustrated me. There is a range by SMEG that offers a way to pop out the window and clean it. But SMEG is a looks not cook range. Now for the Pros 1) The grates can be put into the dishwasher and come out looking brand new. I love that! 2) A great range to cook on. The water boils super fast and the simmer is perfection. A great range to cook but maybe not the best out there. 3) The pieces are solid and made well. A great german product. With all that said, I am getting a Jennair or a Kitchenaid suite of appliances. I know I know they are sisters and made by Whirlpool. Bosch is a German company that also makes Thermador and Gaggaenau, I believe they are all a part of Siemens. And Siemens makes great products. I just want to try a different brand and I am hoping that the bells and whistles with Kitchenaid are something I will love Good luck with your search.

Bosch!!
Hands Down this was our choice for a new range.
I researched on Epinions.com too. I urge you to check this
out because this really helped me choose my range.
What do I love about my Bosch Dual Fuel Intrega 700???

I love the heavy grates. You can put them in the Bosch
dishwasher to clean them. Awesome for me. Easy to clean
and they look bran new after a wash.

I love the large knobs and the look of stainless and black.

I love the convection oven options, the dehydration for
fruit or meat options, I like the racks and how they pull
out very far for me to baste, marinate or check over
stuff. I like the warming drawer to keep stuff warm for
a busy family. I lvoe the quick convection broil, or conv
bake or just regular bake.

I love how fast my burners boil water. We were staying at
a friends ski lodge over MLKing holiday. They
have an old stove in their place that was so slow by the
time it boiled water I did not feel like hot chocolate
anymore. I realized how fast my range is. It heats so fast
if you do not have all your ingredients ready to go you
need to turn the burner off.

I love the time cook plan and the auto on or off. I like
how fast the oven warms up. My son prefers to cook his
snacks in the Oven and used to be a Micro only kid for his
corn dogs, nachos, hot pockets, bagels bites....

I don't like the gas on glass feature. I am told it is
easier to clean than a stainless with gas grates.
However glass really is a pain to clean because you have
the burners to content with.

BUT, the sealed burners are wonderful. If you have ever
had food boil over onto a burner you know too well the
horror that is to clean and make the burner funciton
again. But the sealed burners mean when hot melted
velvetta cheese boils over because your dimwit daughter
wasn't paying attention it can not ruin the burner.

My daughter never has to worry about boiling over velvetta
cheese again because Bosch has this cool opti simmer
burner. It doesn't boil over. Well, lets just say she can
text, listen to music and be distracted from cooking
and the cheese has not boiled over yet.

I love my Bosch. It has been a year and wow this is an
amazing range. My DH is a Bosch fan. He knows nothing about
kitchens, but he is a car guy. And Bosch is German made. DH
loves BMW. So when we were searching he felt the German
made brand was going to be a great ride. Tight around the
corners, sleek, handles well and is reliable. The Bosch is
not a car but it is desingned like it is. You will love it too.

I appreciate the the time you took to give my wife and I your thoughts on the Bosch. Your comments on the versatility and quality of this product from a user's perspective were especially helpful. A review like yours is far more meaningful than the "glowing garbage" the manufacturers put in their brochures.

Do not buy the Kenmore Pro Duel Fuel Range. We have had ours for 2 yrs now and when you turn on the Convection Oven Blower, the back metal panel rattles so loud you cannot hear yourself talk or watch TV in the next room. We have contacted Sears and they will do nothing about it! It is an internal structural defect and you cannot fix it. We paid almost $6000 for this stove and I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU LOOK ELSEWHERE. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT, IT IS A LOUD PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!
