How to convert 3gp file to text

I have three, about one hour each, recordings on my phone. Is there someway I can convert these to text? I emailed them to my PC and have been trying to type them up in Word from Windows Media Player ... there has got to be an easier way. *sigh*

Possibly a different approach might be easier - depending on how much editing you want to do to the original file. Instead of converting the file to Word, try PDF-XChange PDF Viewer. It is a free PDF viewer and editor with lots of excellent features. I have a friend often sends me those files from her cell phone and they play fine in my windows media player.. I upload them for her to youTube so she can let her other friends view them with out the hastle of explaining all they need to do is install one of the free K-Lite codec packs on their computers. I have used Zamzar for years, but they don't have the option to convert to .doc or .docx or .wpd or .rtf.

Chloecat's second link gives me this message: "This input format doesn't match the format of the file you want to convert!"

zamzar's dropdown (in the second "box") allows coversion to .doc, .docx, .rtf, .odt, .wpd., etc.

Once you choose the .3gp file in Step 1, that drop down box switches to choices for audio or video files only. *sigh*

You're asking about converting a media file (sound or video) to a doc (text) file?

Media files of one specification can be converted to another, text files of one type can be converted to another kind of text file. That's what conversion programs as discussed above can do. But something that changes data from one type of data to another type of data may not exist. You need some kind of voice recognition software, like Dragon, to transcribe the words.
