I ahve a realtively small front lawn - 1000 sq ft. It is patch and weedy and construction trucks from next door chewed up the front. Anyone havea good link to the steps I should take or a book? I thought I remember there is a till/not till dispute. I am thinking of going sod. Thanks very much

Thanks Ramses, but my DH vetoed anything brown or tan immediately...he doesn't like brown walls. I know, there are different kinds of browns and tans, but at this point I don't want to argue over, I mean discuss :-), it anymore. I was also thinking of a gray, but thought that would be too close to the black/white I'm known for. I want color! So, we decided to go with the Cornsilk in the Kitchen & DR and Wedgewood Gray in the FR and, I think, the LR. My DH is out buying the paint as I type! The color opinions here & on the Home Decorating Forum were split about equally...half for Cornsilk/half for Wedgewood. We decided to go w/our original plans b/c, as David123 said, it's easy enough to change it if we don't like it...or if after this foray into color I get bolder and want deeper/different colors! I'm taking baby steps here...! BTW...I did call a couple of BM stores near us and neither had color consultants any more other than the store staff. They both told me they discontinued the consultants...didn't really get a good answer why. So, what does everyone think about A TP holder w/room for extra rolls and a similar one for towels that are recessed into the wall OR A stand for TP in the corner in front of the toilet & towel rack for towel hung over the toilet OR A TP holder mounted on the wall in front of the toilet (sides are too tight) and a towel rack above it OR Something else all together?

Purchase water and apply it once per week when the temps are in the 90s. Apply it once every 2 weeks when the temps are in the 80s, and once every 3 weeks in the 70s. Cooler than that and you only water once a month. When you do water apply a full inch all at one time. Measure a full inch by timing how long it takes your sprinklers to fill several cat food or tuna cans placed around the yard. In addition to whatever your lawn care company is using, you should apply an organic fertilizer once (or more) per year. Years and years of not getting organic fertilizer can lead to issues. Even once a year apps of organics can go a looooong way to fixing it. In this forum (and most of the enlightened lawn care forums) we talk about using grain based organic fertilizers. If you read the label on a commercial bag of organic fertilizer you'll find they list the following ingredients: corn, wheat, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, cottonseed meal, and other ground up beans, nuts, grains, and seeds. Well, you can get a huge discount on those materials by buying at your local feed store. I get 50 pounds of corn meal for about $8 and alfalfa pellets for $12. Whereas organic fertilizer might be $30 for 30 pounds. Milorganite is an exception costing about $16 for 30/40 pounds. That should be going on sale any day now for half price. The application rate is the same for all of these materials at 15-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. If you are one of 'those people' who don't believe organics are real fertilizers, I offer the following evidence.That picture shows the results of a handful of alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow) in a zoysia lawn. The alfalfa was applied in mid May and the picture was taken in mid June. You can clearly see the improved color, density, and growth. One reason people don't usually see the benefit is the improvement takes 3 weeks. Thanks to mrmumbles for posting that picture to this forum. I had a friend in Canada who spilled some cracked corn on a spot near his shed. He thought he swept it all up, but a month later that was the only green spot in his yard. So it does work. If you would like to go for the gold, you could send a soil sample in to Logan Labs for the $25 test. Post the results here and morpheuspa will read it for you and tell you what to apply, how, how much, when, and where to buy it.

I pretty much will second a lot of what reeljake said. I have used dimension with great success but have switched to stonewall. Performance wise, they both get the job done and control poa which was a problem a few years back. I don't have to apply stonewall as often as I did dimension. I will spot spray weeds with roundup when the grass is dormant. No problems from me. My post emergent weed killer of choice is Ortho Weed B Gon for Southern Lawns. I use the concentrate and spot spray with a tank sprayer. The first time I used it, the weeds were drooping over within 24 hours but it my grass did turn light green. It wasn't that bad and it recovered just fine. Next time, I diluted it a little more than what the directions stated. Weeds took a little longer to die but there was no damage to my grass.
