Need fixture help for vaulted ceiling over kitchen table
Comments (1)Our kitchen has vaulted ceiling also, but not that high over the table, so we have a hanging fixture. We have a recessed light that illuminates the other side of the kitchen, where the ceiling is pretty high. It provides ambient light to that side of the room, but if our table were under it, I don't think it would throw off the right kind of light. If I were you, I would reconsider putting a hanging fixture over the table. If you're concerned that a 14-foot chain might not look right, go to a good light fixture store and browse through some catalogues. You'll get good ideas on how to deal with your issue....See MoreBathroom Ceiling Light & Exhaust Fan - combined or separate fixtures?
Comments (10)A kid's bathroom usually means a tub/shower surround. If so... I prefer the vent in the ceiling within the tub enclosure. It's a fine place for a vent/light combo. It's best to have them controlled with a timer switch. Turn the switch ON and the shower light and fan turn on. Turn the switch OFF and the light turns off but the fan runs for a preset time, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes as chosen by you, then the fan turns off automatically. Then have bathroom lighting in the bathroom itself. Sconces on each side of the mirror, or ceiling lights. Depends on the size/style/layout of the room. Ventilation should be functional, it's best to have it as close to the source of moisture as possible. Lighting should be functional, ie, is it general room lighting or makeup lighting; eliminating facial shadows at the mirror, etc....See MoreHelp pls: Fan + lighting + vaulted ceiling
Comments (11)The gimbal will not really reduce glare. They will be extremely bright, concentrated points of light when on. The specs don't detail how much adjustment they allow, so I can't tell if they would even point straight down in a 30 degree ceiling. To avoid glare in a recessed light, you need the light source to be deeply recessed, and a reflector that will not be bright (it sounds counter-intuitive, but a clear reflector cone does not appear bright like a white baffle does). Not all cove-lighting requires building a cove - some products are finished sheet-metal and designed to be exposed. Here's an example: https://www.solidstateluminaires.com/products/createacove/ You certainly wouldn't need to :"cover the wall with sconces" if you use high-output sconces designed for uplighting. With decorative sconces, certainly. You could fully light the room with 4 sconces such as these: http://belfer.com/products/sconces/ws-7230-led-120v/ If you go with recessed lights or sconces, do remember that the taller half of the ceiling is 6ft higher than the lower half. If you're shining light down or reflecting light off of it, the fixtures on the tall part should have a tighter beam spread and possibly either a different lumen package or be on a separate dimmer so that the brightness appear similar. Given the same beam spread, a recessed light 6 ft higher will have a beam diameter about 3 times larger and center-beam brightness about 1/6 as bright. Monorail is certainly a bit more visually intrusive. If it hangs at 9ft off the ground (level with the ceiling fan) it probably wouldn't be all that intrusive - you wouldn't see it unless you were actually looking up. If you go that route, it should be no more than 2ft from the perimeter walls. Tech and PureEdge are the two common makers of it....See MoreAny idea for ceiling lights on vaulted ceilings ?
Comments (13)^^^what RL said. I love good layered lighting and personally dislike can lighting especially in high ceilings. If most concerned about evening, lamps both floor and table along with possibly some floor wall wash lights to highly ceiling and corners would play nice in these rooms. Once you get furniture in, it is easier to decide where lighting is best. All remote control plugs help and dimmers. As to the dining light, shape is nice if it mirrors shape of table. Most make the mistake of hanging lighting too high. If you are keeping that dining light, you need it lower. But if they cut the wires at the junction box and didn’t leave extra wire up there, you will need new fixture. Re wiring fixtures usually costs more than comparable fixture. I think this can be a stunning home. Don’t scrimp on lighting. It will “make” your home....See Morelaughablemoments
