I hate Comcast , I hate Comcast, I hate Comcast.
Comments (16)I am canceling my service with Comcast. I have the $4.99 charge to cover me in case I need to have a service call. Well in April I did have a service call as one of my two phone lines was not working. The technician who came out broke my phone and did not tell me that he broke it. I found that out much later -- it should have been a hint when he did not want me to hold the phone. Then he or Comcast put a $70.00 charge on my account. When I called Comcast, I told them about this, they admitted that it should not have been there and they told me that they would credit my account on the next bill, but that I was expected to pay it and they would issue a credit. I need to check the statutes but I don't think you can collect on disputed charges, especially when you are aware that YOU made the mistake. For the $70.00 that should not have been billed, they interrupted the service. I refuse to pay it and have notified my local jurisdiction and the FCC. If you are looking for a cable or internet or phone provider, don't walk past Comcast, run as fast and as far as you can....See MoreYippee - got rid of Comcast today!!
Comments (20)This is yet another industry that has managed, with the help of Congress, to basically create a monopoly whether literally (where I live, Comcast is our ONLY option) or via collusion. Politicians are useless as they're all bought by these companies. No one is protecting the consumer (well, hello Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, but they are alone). I called my state rep about it and got a bunch of gobbledygook about how Comcast owns the infrastructure and a competitor would have to build their own in order to open up shop…couldn't belive what I was hearing (literally). Every new competitor who might want to start a new telecommunication company has to first install cable lines, telephone poles, etc.??? The whole point of that is to make sure, once again, that there is NO competition and therefore NO pressure on prices, keeping them low. That is how business is done in this country now, precisely NO free market. The rep did tell me that there is an investigation going on into possible collusion between the two or few companies out there now. I'll believe it when I see it. Most likely, Comcast and Verizon will just pay them off, and the "investigation" will go away. Ultimately, the problem is that Congress no longer protects Americans fro corporate predation, has weakened Taft-Hartley, among other important laws put i place long ago for good reason, and we now live in a corporacracy, and an oligarchy to boot....See MoreHow do I get Verizon to run a service line to my house?
Comments (13)We had Verizon when we live in Annapolis. Had an instance where service went out (it was just us as both next door neighbors where up and running). Called Verizon, waited FOREVER and was told it would be FIVE DAYS before someone could come out. So I drove up to the local Verizon service shop (not a store but the place where all the technicians go to every morning and get the truck, supplies, assignments, etc..... dingy warehouse building in the back of a dingy industrial park). Talked to the foreman there and he filled out a service request for 8AM next morning. Funny sidebar: He's typing out the request and he noted "Customer irate". I said "I'm not irate" and he replied "I know but if I don't put that down they ignore it". Anyway, sure enough, a guy showed up at 8AM the next morning. And I brought two dozen doughnuts to the shop the NEXT morning! It was much appreciated. I had some other problems over the ensuing years and I just went up to the shop. Didn't even call Verizon's service number. Worked VERY well! So you might try that....See MoreCan I get estimates from General Contractors if I plan to GC myself?
Comments (43)I would say best practice for hiring for a position like yours is to include in the posting that there is a preference for internal candidates. I know when I was a job seeker I found that a fair way to give me a heads up about the likelihood of getting the job. That is a great response and thank you for offering a reasonable and thoughtful response, however, that could be an ethical violation. This is a perfect demonstration of the difference between ethical and honest. You have a fiduciary duty to the company you work for. If revealing a preference for internal candidates will yield a less qualified pool (which it definitely will), and there is even a chance you would hire an external candidate (which might apply), then your honesty would be an ethical violation. You were not hired by your organization to look out for the interest of applicants, you were hired to look out for the best interest of the organization that pays you. You were free to turn down the job, but you didn't. ----- So let's turn this back around to a contractor. Suppose a contractor has a couple of partners in his business, and he is asked to do a bid for someone, which is a service he charges for. As the bid comes together he realizes that he has no intention of accepting the job. What should he do? Obviously, the move with the most integrity is to give the money back and come clean, anything else is tantamount to stealing. However, returning money that he had no obligation to, would be a violation of his fiduciary duty to his partners. Ethics aside, I don't think you are well equipped to GC your own home build based on this information. I completely agree with this. This is also why I think finding out how much you will have to pay someone to do it for you is a really great option....See Morehousebuilding126
