GROSS! The down side of leaf thieving......
Comments (44)Frank! Oh. My. Word. That's disgusting, but I can do you one better. I got some leaves from a neighbor one fall---someone I still have to see from time to time! It was my birthday (Feb. 13th), so I didn't get to it right away. I think it was about 3 days later and I went to open the bag, thinking how nice it was that my neighbor offered me her leaves, and---I'm almost getting sick even now writing about it and it's been years, maybe four years now or more, but anyway, my neighbor had emptied a bowl of leftover cheerios from the bowl, evidently (they were damp as if from milk) into her leaf bag. Gak! I'm sure that she didn't think that anyone she knew would ask her for her leaves when she did that, but anyone else could have found it, too, say after it got to the dump. I never said anything to anyone about it (well, now you guys, but Frank got me started) but I never see her without thinking about it and I often wonder if she knows that I came across that. Anyway, I'm sorry if I've grossed everyone out....See MoreThe Wicked Witch (Drought) Is Dead!
Comments (14)Diane, If I was any good at all at doing a rain dance to draw rain here, do you think we would have spent Aug. 07 through April 09 in a state of drought? LOL Clearly, I am a failure at rain dancing. On the other hand.....I planted one row (15 plants) of tomatoes in overcast, windy conditions on Sunday. I would have planted more, but didn't want to plant more than I could cover up Monday night when it froze. Within 3 hours of finishing that row, we had a tornado spotted by a trained spotter a bit to our southwest (it did no real damage and went back up into the sky), then we had rain, and then we had pea-sized hail (no damage), and then within 36 hours we had an overnight low of 35 degrees and ice on the windshields (plants were covered). So, apparently all I have to do to create "weather" is just put a few of my precious, spoiled rotten pampered tomato seedlings in the ground. Wish I'd known that months ago. I've been planting more today, though, so the weather here should be wetter tomorrow and maybe we can hog all the rain and keep it from coming to you. Lisa, Well, I love mimosa trees and would have come and dug them all up and put them in my pasture if I'd known you had them and they were annoying you. : ) The hummers do love them too! We had a silver maple in Ft. Worth that was about 35 feet tall and I hated everything about it, including its billions of babies, except that it shaded the whole west side of the house, including the kitchen and dining room, from the western sun. If I don't watch the squirrels and the pecans, my garden will turn into a pecan orchard. Often, I'll be busy and sort of ignore the pecan seedlings for a few weeks and then have a hard time pulling them out. They root deeply very quickly. I hope this week the wet stuff falls all over your place. You need some overflowing rain gauge activity. You know that if I get more rain than you for 2 consecutive weeks, it obviously is a sign of the end of the world. : ) I bet it rains on almost all of us. The system that is bringing rain is supposed to be very strong, very active and very large. (Sorry, Diane.) Dawn...See MoreNew thread to try to solve computer problem please
Comments (35)I should mention that I just took AOL off my computer after 8 years. I understand AOL leaves bits of itself all over as well. When I followed your instructions I ran into a snag but tried to continue on. Hopefully Norton is gone. Comments (37)Have not read entire thread so forgive me if I am suggesting/asking stuff already covered. Not sure what area you are in but do you have good cell coverage? Could you do without a landline? Can you get internet thru satellite or cable? When I had small kids I would not give up landline in case of 911 emergencies. When they got to where I thought they could accurately report address I dropped landline and we all have cells as well as an emergency cell that is pay as you go. It is charged and sits in kitchen. Also a couple years ago our area allowed us to voluntarily register our cell numbers with our address. I have since made 911 calls and they asked are you calling from home and able to then connect us to our address. I know that I really like the savings! Best of luck in your new home. Again, if you have small kids the cheapest landline might be a good idea. Maybe this really isn't about what you are asking but just my thoughts....See Morededtired
