Prolific Kordes in hot & humid climate

Please share which Kordes roses bloom a lot for you in high heat and humidity ?

I have Beverly and Plum Perfect and got Wedding Bells this week .

Any one grow Savannah and pink enchantment (sov de Baden Baden ) and Poisedon ? bush size ? how is bloom repeat ? scorching in 100+ temps ?

WEDDING BELLSSSSSSS! (Imaging that sung out like a happy and fat opera singer).

I love love love this rose and I know you will to. I think it may be the perfect rose.

I told Chris from New Flora that it should be added to the Sunbelt collection along with Beverly since both performed so well for me here in South Florida, but I'm sure there is more to it than just Florida heat.

My Savannah is still small and has only bloomed twice. Its not in the most perfect location. Right now it doesn't get much sun and will only start getting ideal sun once it grows a little taller. It had pretty good disease resistance however and the bloom is very pretty. Its only been in the ground a couple of months though.

I love Plum Perfect.

Cream Veranda is also a wonderful rose you may want to try. It stays very compact and the blooms are quite large considering the plant stays so small.

Solero Vigorosa is in the same boat as Cream Veranda. Its not quite as disease resistant, but its not bad and it too has large blooms in comparison to its size.

I really like Roxy vigorosa. Its pretty much a miniature though. But the little blooms look like miniature versions of Fallstaff or Rouge Royal blooms and its just too cute. It blooms a bunch.

I also really like Lavendar Veranda. Its a little taller than Cream Veranda growing to about 2.5 feet and a very prolific bloomer. Not quite as deep in color as Plum Perfect.

One that has not done well for me is Summer Romance. No blooms. None! Its been there for 2 years without a single bloom. Just lots and lots and lots of healthy foliage.

Another one that's still up in the air is Raspberry Vigorosa. Its extremely resistant to disease and has bloomed some. But so far its much more plant than flower. I havent given up on it yet though because its only been in the garden about 6 months.

One that puzzles me is Earth Angel. Its first few months it gave me about 6 gorgeous blooms that were to die for. Then it stopped blooming and had just shot out new shoot after shoot after shoot. I've never seen such a vigorous rose. Its the bushiest thing ever, but no buds. Its not tall per say, just really really bushy. Its about 2x2. I cut it back about 2 months ago, hoping to git it to bloom but I think I just angered it because it shot out 7 (count em, 7!) new basal canes after i pruned it, and still no buds. Again, I'm not giving up on it, because it was just a little one gallon thing when I planted it last fall but if it sends out any more shoots, I don't know where its gonna put them. Its so friggin' bushy!

I'm so impressed with many of my new Kordes that I just put in an order for a bunch more. I'm getting:

Florentina, Jasmina, Honeymoon, (all climbers) from Edmunds.

Then, Lemon Fizz Kolorscape, Rose of hope, Dark Desire, Soul Sister and Poseidon.

Thanks a lot ! I want to make a new healthy rose bed .How about sov de Baden Baden ? Do you think it looks like Pink Promise which l heard is disease resistant too in FL ?

So far, Darcey Bussell has been my best DA performer. She’s not a favorite, only because I prefer softer colors. She remains “fairly” compact, relative to most DA’s here. She never seems to mind pruning, no matter when or how often. She blooms all the time and makes a better cut flower than most DA’s. I don’t get any disease on her here, although Embothrium has big problems with something like downey mildew on Darcey Bussell. I don’t think that’s in a dry Mediterranean climate, though. Mine is always healthy and happy. She’s in a rather small bed, so she’s cut back often. She doesn’t receive more water than anything else does, and doesn’t seem to need it. My soil is clay, so it does retain water well and is full of nutrients. Abraham Darby on the other hand, DOES want extra water here. I have never experienced rust(other than on hollyhocks), until recently. I’d been very busy over the past month or so, and must have slacked off on watering, just a little. Nobody minded except for AD. This, combined with the wind and 3-5% humidity produced a spectacular case of rust on Abraham Darby. Even though I’ve never seen rust on my roses before, it’s so bad that there’s no mistaking what it is. I’m not even sure what to do about it. I’m giving him lots of extra water, and thinking of pruning him down to almost the ground. I’m worried about spreading the rust, even while pruning. Last night, I went out late to move the hose with my headlamp on. I removed a spent bloom from AD, and in the light beam I could see tiny dust like particles floating off. I can only assume they were rust particles. I fear that while pruning the rust will blow everywhere. So AD definitely wants extra water. He’s brought me my first case of rust on a rose bush. And oh yes, of course, he grows huge in our kind of climate. Lisa

Clothilde Soupert could be a good one for you. I'm located in northern VA about 30 miles south of DC. Tea roses are no spray for me but they grow quite large - Monsieur Tillier is about 6x6 with regular haircuts. Marie Van Houtte is larger. So scratch teas from your list LOL -- there's no winter die back here.

Thanks for the great feedback, rgreen48. Starting the new garden this year, and getting a late start on it, I reconciled myself to the idea that if we harvested anything from the garden that would be a bonus...that we were simply trying to get the foundation started for the garden. Naturally, when I saw plants growing and blooming I shifted gears from "we're building a garden" to "I've gotta save the plants and gotta harvest two tons of vegetables off of this little piece of dirt!!!".<rolling eyes> Then, of course, along comes downy mildew, SVB (most likely), etc.,. Reality sets in that I've created a buffet for uninvited guests of different sorts. "Patient fortitude"...nice expression. <chuckle> Thanks for the reality check on needing to be more specific...I see that I was asking in a "shotgun pattern" manner. I've looked at lots of plant/variety lists and I agree there is a long, long list of different varieties. That's probably why I asked my original question(s) asking for recommendations...the list can be, uh, a little overwhelming. :) But, I agree that being more specific will gather better response and more research on my part will allow me to ask more informed questions. I think I'm going to be happy with my okra variety (Clemson Spineless) and my cowpeas (Zipper Cream) are starting to bloom on some *very* robust bushes so I think I'm good on them, though I might try a smaller seeded variety along with them next year. Yellow crookneck squash, though having a tough go of it (planted late), will also be one that I'll be planting again next year. The jury is still out on my tomatoes, cukes, and melons...all seem to be struggling but I'm not so sure a lot of that is accountable to the extremely wet/humid summer that we've had. So, I may just plant two or three new varieties of these next year and see which performs the best...maybe buy a large enough quantity of seed to replant the next year of the favored plant to insure against crossing between the varieties...??? ...and hope for a less incubator-style weather pattern next year! Saving seeds from hybirds... If I save the seeds of a hybrid and then replant them I understand that the resulting plant will be a wildcard but will the seeds from that wildcard plant produce replicas of itself and be OP? ....ok, I did some googling (it takes me forever to respond to a good post!<g>) and from what I can tell it takes the 7th generation to have a "new" stable variety from hybrid seeds...is that the Reader's Digest condensed version of the answer to my question? Vegetable gardeners are like beekeepers, it appears...ask ten beekeepers a question and get 20 answers...maybe 21. ;) Thanks for the good food for thought!

@Carla English , There are many ways to treat/prevent BS. Are you in south with humidity all growing season or North East-NY or NJ or other state w/ some humidity only oart of growing season? Makes a difference how to treat it best oer your location. How old is Pretty n Pink rose? Climbers bloom more in 3rd year if in “full sun—6-10 hrs,” Edens can have hundreds of blooms 3rd year!!! First year maybe few blooms, second year maybe 20-30 blooms. Rebloom more on 3rd year. I have 2 Edens. One in 10+ hrs sun-hundreds blooms 3rd year. 2nd Eden in less sun-got BS…. May move to sunnier spot. They are my favorite blooms of all my roses……June they put on the biggest display blooming all month… then few blooms off/on all summer. So soectacular June-I wouldnt miss it for the world! In NY Fingerlakes area, I have humidity/tons rain,, end of summer mainly Aug-Sept & if I remove lower leaves near ground about 6” up stem, it sonetimes avoids getting BS started. Also, I plant roses far apart from touching other roses or plants so air can circulate-jeep leaves dry, so BS wont get started. Keep them prumed if touch any other plants. Water on ground roots, not leaves of roses. Try keep leaves dry. Plant roses in sunniest spots if property 6hrs and more sunlight. Shady roses can get BS. Spray if BS starts regularly. It can stunt or stop BS altogether. You will loose less leaves/rose stays healthier. American Tose Society suggests most effect sprays on leaves.. Make sure you plant roses in soil that drains well. If soil is soggy wet-dig up soil & replace with areating healthy soil that drains well. Clay really retains water-soaking rose toots-causing BS. Improve clay soil by adding Espoma or organic soils/compost. If one rose gets BS it can spread to other roses anywhere… Nip it first signs…. try little of all above ideas and may orevent it spreading. Sonetimes it not the rose but the way you’re caring for it. It does look like pink promise a bit. Its not quite as hybrid tea in form, a little more old fashioned and a little less pink. Mine is pretty disease resistant. Mine is young and really not in the best spot either so its hard to judge on its performance. The blooms are really gorgeous though. Its on fortuniana too. I have a feeling it will do better in time. The blooms are more cream than pink. Its a tough rose that pushed on in a spot where all others have failed.

Speaking of Pink Promise. My Pink Promise is one of the best performing HT's for me. I really like this rose and I always forget to mention it when I talk about healthy roses so thanks for bringing it up. :)

Good to know Pink Promise is a good rose . I think I will get it instead of pink enchantment since I prefer exhibition form . I really wish k&M would graft more Kordes roses on Fortuniana ,their selection is very limited . I am dying to get South Africa sunbelt but I dont like to use any other rootstock .
