Need a GC for a Kitchen renovation in Manhattan - help me!
Comments (1)You might try posting in a local message board for NYC. And, whomever you do select is the one who pulls permits, not you. If you pull the permits, then you are the one guaranteeing that the work is done correctly and the one who the city gets money from if the workers violate the noise ordinance or you need an extension....See MoreBeginning kitchen renovation - need help with "zones"
Comments (30)Functionally it serves no purpose there as it's too far away from the stove and almost right next to the main sink. If you really wanted to use it for prep I'd move it to the far right of your main sink, that way you can use the small sink for the meat/hot liquid dumping and the kids can use the main sink to wash their hands or help with veggies, etc. I personally have a prep sink to the left of my range top and do with it what you are proposing. If it's closer to where it will help you prep it will be far more useful in the long run than having it in the peninsula. OR, place it where funkycamper did and use it for the coffee and as a handwash sink far out of the working zones. Just some other things think about, but I hope that it helps a bit. Renos are exhausting!...See MoreNeed help with wall color in newly renovated kitchen. HELP :-)
Comments (36)I really like the fabric you have chosen for your curtains. Reminds me of a store we once had called Laura Ashley. -Well...I think you should find a gorgeous cream, thick white/eggshell and paint your kitchen walls this colour as it carries into you dining area (there is not visual break). It has to complement this area at the same time. All four walls in kitchen area white, so no accent wall. (Yes, this includes the wall we see that leads into the living room). -Go with that gorgeous darker of the two greens for your upper cabinets and white again for your lower cabinets. The standing cabinet surrounding the fridge can also be the same green, with your island remaining white OR be white, again with your island remaining white. Keep in mind your appliances are black. White ones would be best but another time. **When you paint your island white, keep the knobs black. This ties in with your curtain rod above the glass doors as well as your appliances. -Please, please buy the kit that allows you to get a granite look for countertops and apply to both cabinet and island countertops. -Since you will be in painting mode, I would recommend also painting out the living room the same white until you find a colour for it that allows the eyes to transition naturally from kitchen/dining to living room. It will feel like the Hamptons for a little while. My two cents worth....See Moreplease help with kitchen renovation and adding an island
Comments (6)Note this home is on a concrete slab so I will have to be creative in getting electric to my prep island. The electrician and I discussed running electric down a conduit doubling as see through shelves on the SE corner of the island where the bookcase is on the sketch. I want seating closer to the stove and trash for when my legs and back start aching from standing. The 2nd seat would be for when I need reinforcement on food prep and cooking! I'd rather have touchless trash but will deal with pull out if can't figure out where to put it. I want to keep the sink in front of the window since there is usually plastics and pans in the sink waiting to be hand washed. will the frig and dishwasher be ok next to each other? (I really don't see any other way) I'm attaching the way it looks right now (2 even with taped out areas representing the islandand the fridge)...basically a mess...See Morebigreader
