What to replace door and shutters with if I can’t do sidelights?

I have a 1960’s front door with side shutters I am trying to figure out how to replace and update. I want to get rid of the shutters with siding under it. However, I dont know what to put in its place. The interior of the house can not accommodate a door with sidelights. The exterior could accommodate a faux sidelight. Any suggestions on what I could do or what others have done?

I need to see the whole front of the house post here in a comment DO NOT start another post .Show us the door you want . The storm/ screen is country is that your style ?

The whole outside of the house is not my style. The front door and storm door are from the 60s and we never changed it as we weren’t sure what to do. We put up this siding and shutters 18 years ago but I have got to work with the siding for now. I would love to change/ get rid of the brick but not sure what to do with it considering the current exterior. The inside of my house is much more my style. Country is not my style. We are currently re landscaping this front porch area as we recently had a new front concrete slab poured. The kicker is we don’t even use this entrance. I frankly have no idea what kind of front door to install. Was thinking maybe wood or wood look or black with some windows at top. For sure more modern in style.

I haven't checked out this forum in a long time so I'm not a regular but for whatever it's worth, I really like the side door window painted the same color as the door whatever color you decide on. Otherwise the window sticks out like a sore thumb and throws everything off balance. It looks really great painted the same color. Isn't it wonderful there are such talented people to show you exactly how it will look before painting.

Keep the louvered shutters. Board and batten is more for farmhouse not colonial. I'd like black shutters and a navy door. I have a very similar brick colonial and have a navy door and white shutters but am hoping to replace the white with black soon.

What do I do with these shutters and panels under the windows?

If you plan on redoing the flower beds, then I'd remove the panel and the long shutters. you may like it without the panels or the shutters. Those shrubs have to go though. they're scraggly and do nothing for your yard. I like the idea of flower boxes. not big on the gray. here's why I do like black this is how those shrubs are supposed to look! this is beautiful w/the black shutters, white trim, and I also like this style door. consider replacing your hand rail with something like above. a complete redo w/painted brick and wood shutters/posts. these color combos might work. red for your door, Amherst for the shutters, white for trim. or,,,

Painting the sidelights white will make the door stand out more, IMO. Agree with black or the current color and no shutters, wider steps, a larger lantern light (1/4 - 1/3 the door's height,) new landscaping, and a new walkway to the street. I think new landscaping will be highest impact for this house though.

Suggest a black door and painting the shutters and trim the same black or white (might have to experiment) and add planters in front. Another way to help is with more impactful landscaping across the front. Have you considered removing the shutters on the windows.

That’s a nice traditional house. If you don’t like the shutter just put two panel there- any good lumberyard can order them. Essentially a very narrow door. You could also just use a bifold door set Once painted and mounted it will look fine. Paint it the trim color and put a fun color on your door and new storm door.

Love the black door picture Maureen!!!. Hmmmm I haven’t thought of removing the windows shutters. Maybe I’ll try that in AI to see what it looks like.
