new nais strategy & small farm n ranch lobby day in dc
Comments (2)Well, I work on BIG daries, I own my own beef cows, and my past is in beef operations of all sizes... I can say that producers of all sizes are against the NAIS in any form they choose to present it. For my big dairy customers: It is all they can do to get employees who can write down numbers acuarately enough to use a simple numbered eartag system with any accuracy much less reporting the results to the USDA. No matter what I am trying to look at when I deal with records on big dairies I expect to see a ten-percent margin of error due to employees making mistakes... The USDA has not come up with a way to overcome that and their system won't work until they do. As far as my small beef herd: The hassles of just having the herd itself are almost not worth it. It would just take a little bit of government to get me to throw up my hands and tear out the pasture and plant citrus. As far as my past with beef operations: Ain't no way in **** the USDA is gonna track those animals! I used to help on a ranch whose strategy to control inbreeding was to ride out into the backcountry and shoot every bull over three years old that didn't have a brand... The country was so tough that they couldn't even gather all of their cattle to work them. There are more ranches like that than we realize and they can't survive if they are expected to track every single animal....See MoreTouch Base Here
Comments (40)It is good see see that people haven't gone totally MIA. Bob and I moved last weekend. Bob did the moving HIMSELF. He is insane but he managed with his hand cart and muscles. We had the entire month of January to move from one apartment to the other so he moved a few pieces of furniture and boxes at a time. Last weekend was the last bit of it. And it almost killed us! I haven't felt pain like that in ages. I could barely walk or function so now I'm facing a bunch of boxes that need unpacking. We didn't get the phone line moved until a week ago and then the DSL wasn't connected for a couple more days. Bob finally found the computer to hook it up today. I have really missed you guys here and on Facebook! It was so sad putting all my "garden" things into storage because this new apartment doesn't have a patio or balcony. I'm thinking of creating a "garden" room in the spare bedroom. I want to fill it with my birdhouse/cat collecton, flowers and maybe a garden junk piece or two. Besides that ... and this is a secret ... lol ... I have been busy planning my marriage to Bob on Valentine's Day. he-he He came home one day a couple of weeks ago saying we had to get married by March 1st because that is when his pension starts and he needs to decide which payment option to take. A friend of a friend is a minister and will marry us. He said Valentine's Day was fine for him. So we are going to have a very small and short wedding on a day meant for love and romance (it also makes it easy to remember the anniversary too!). Maybe after we are married and I have pictures, I'll share the ceremony with you guys. Let's just say that everyone I tell it to thinks we are certifiably nuts. lol! Nona said it well ... I hope folks are able to heal both physically, emotionally and mentally from the setbacks experienced by many of you. Hopefully the year will only improve for all of us. Hugs to everyone!...See Moreback in the game?
Comments (8)Hi Butterfly. First, how old are you; Second, dump the old married guy ("OMG"). He's not worth it and it will never work; Third, co-worker ("CW") is immature, impressionable and commitment-phobic. Stop talking to OMG; he just checks in occasionally to keep you hooked! You are diminishing your self-esteem by being available at any time, anywhere; he is wasting your time and life and what's worse is that you are letting him. Regarding CW, tell him that you're considering moving out of state--let him know that it's a serious possibility. As for his "goals" that prevent his growing up and entering into a serious relationship, he's stalling. He has his his pals to spend time with whereas you are alone. That his behavior with the pals is so different than with you is a big tip-off about maturity. Make certain these guys know you have had it with being demeaned, dismissed and jerked around in general. It is way past time to be very kind to yourself. As far as having a fragile heart, for your own sake you simply must toughen up; that vulnerability attracts losers like these men. Further, you are depressed (who wouldn't be?) and therapy would help enormously, whether with a psychologist or with a minister. They can give you mental tools to help you be couragous and improve your self-image. You are worth it. These two clowns are not....See MoreCanada has a new Prime Minister
Comments (29)In 2012 Justin Trudeau was pitted against a 'rival' politician, (a Conservative Senator named Patrick Brazeau,) in an annual charity boxing match, to raise money for cancer research. Trudeau's opponent was more muscular, has a black belt in karate and was a former member of our military. But I guess Justin's past experience with boxing and his determination weren't taken into consideration by the odds makers, because he surprised many people by winning! His opponent who lost the bet, had to cut off his ponytail in our House of Commons and wear a shirt with Trudeau's Liberal Party logo for one week, lol! http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/the-mp-vs-the-senator-which-politician-will-win-a-sold-out-charity-boxing-match...See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
