Yes, definitely silver - but I think your pictures flanking the windows are hung too high. Lower them, and you won't have such a big gap that looks like it needs to be filled.

I think I hung them high in coordination with the bigger picture in the left wall (which can't be seen) I think they look a little bigger in person! I'm hoping the vases will help.

Both of the paintings flanking the windows are a bit too high and too close to the curtains.

I don't think l can move them down, since it's renting, I already had someone drill (with permission), then there will be too many holes in the wall! They are also centering the bookshelf.

That's why i'm thinking if I get tall vases, it will help fill the gap because they are really tall, about 20 inches is the tallest one, so it would lie just a few inches below the picture! Not an ideal situation but trying to work with it.... I'm really hoping it will work out.

For the picture on the right, there is a lamp when you sit down or are walking in, it looks okay.

My favorite is the blue next is silver both would work.

If you want to lower them without drilling more holes, you can hang them on a wire or ribbon. Sort of like would be done off a picture rail.

I like the silver. How about hanging the artwork from ribbons to lower it without changing the holes in the wall?

Only thing is, the clips to hang are on the sides instead of the top, I'm wondering how to attach the ribbons? Also, I'm worried if I get those vases and somehow find a way to lower the art, then the vases will cover the art, since they are tall, then maybe the point of lowering the art would be moot.

Are you planning to use them for flowers? I can't tell if the stems are hollow, but even if they are, you won't really be able to have an arrangement in them. If you just want them as a decorative touch, no worries (and I would go with the silver), but they just don't look practical as actual vases (says the woman who has multiple arrangements throughout her home at all times). :-)

I like the blue. They look like votive holders, not vases, though.

cyn427, I checked the description though, it is actually meant as a vase, for flower arrangements or a centerpiece, i'd use it just for decoration!

@lovemrmewey, Thanks for the compliment!! Glad you like the large piece, it's a metal, stone mosaic wall panel that I got from Pier One. It was the only one left and I just had to get it! It has all these different kinds of stones and colored mirror reflections coming off of it. Very cool!

Now that you guys mentioned it, now i'm super worried about the artwork being too high. I guess I thought it was okay there or that vases on the shelf would fill the gap well.

I'm so confused about what to get. I also saw these cute vases, maybe they will look better, but they are not as tall in height as the original vases I was talking about. They highest vase of each set 12 inches tall. Maybe one of these would look better though?

Off the topic (sorry) but I can't help but ask about the mixed media art picture behind your couch. Where did you get it?

I would try lowering the art before buying anything.

If there's a wire across the back of the frames, you can either string a ribbon through the wire; or attach longer chains where the side clips are.

I'm in the lower the art camp, and I'd worry about the first sets of long-stemmed vases, as they appear to be something you'd want to display in a safe place with little to no traffic nearby. If you use the bookcase and take books out often, I'd be afraid to jar the vases and have them fall and break. One reviewer said they are perfect for tea lights, but I can't see putting any thing else in them.

The stemmed vases just look so classy and pretty! I saw that review too about them being in a high traffic area, but the vases do have 35 5 star reviews. I don't really go to the bookshelf that much, although those other vases I posted look cute too.

About lowering the art, I guess I'm not sure I understand if it would make a difference? If I put tall vases there, wouldn't it fill the gap anyways?

This is the artwork above the shelf, they are 19 inches tall. This is what they look like:

Filling the gap doesn't negate the fact that they're too high. They're still above eye level. I would never go out and buy more "stuff" to fix a mistake that could be fixed without "stuff". That's how you end up with clutter.

Using a command hook- you could stack the pictures above the bookshelf. Then, using a plant in the corner for height. Or nothing in the corner. I think they would be more impactful stacked together & not seem so floaty.

@peppapoodle, do you mean stacking one on the of the other on one wall? Then I guess I can just place the other one underneath without lowering anything.

Or maybe I can use a ribbon by attaching them to the side chips or a chain, do you guys have any ideas on where to find ones that make sense for hanging pictures. I still don't know about lowering them, but everyone's saying it would look better so I guess I can consider it!

As so many others have said the height of your artwork has to be fixed before you think of what accessories to use. Reading online about what professionals say about pictures hung over a couch or piece of furniture would be worth your time. Artwork should be anchored to what is below it, not floating out on the wall somewhere. T he height of the ceiling doesn't matter, the artwork goes with what's below it. I think the art over the couch is too high also. The rule of thumb by people who hang art is 8" to 10" inches over furniture beneath the art or at eye level for an average height person if there is nothing below it. So, you couldn't put the vases on the bookcase, but there probably is another place to put them. Centerpiece on dining table?

I would hang the matching print on the right of the windows below the one on the left (is that left picture really centered over the bookcase; from the camera angle it doesn't look it), Then get something entirely different and larger centered on the right of the window.

pandtkendall, thanks for the helpful tips, that's a brilliant idea, maybe it would look better to stack them on top of each other. Then I can just place one of them underneath the other and like you said put a larger picture on the other side. Or how about if I stack the pictures on the window without the bookshelf so that there would be space to put vases on the bookshelf with no picture above. Just trying to think of other ideas. Would stacking them look better than getting ribbons or chains?

Oh wow! @ravencajun Zone 8b TX, that idea may be the most practical solution and eliminate most problems, if I put the pictures on the right of the window, in a stair-step way, that way I don't have to adjust the first picture and because I was thinking if I just put a picture underneath it, there would still be a huge space on the right. I never stacked by stair-step before, an interesting though.

I wonder if I can place the picture with command strips, it's 3 pounds to avoid drilling. If I do it this way, then I can also get those vases for the shelf! I'll check out the putty, is the putty like permanent glue or would I still be able to lift the vases or remove them?

You can remove the putty. Stair step pictures is a fairly common method. Command make a heavy duty version look for those. There are also these hangers that are very thin, look like a fish hook and hold weight with out making a big hole just a pin point.

Okay I tried the stair step idea on the right side of the room. I used command strips, didn't think they would hold but they are for now.

So my options are: (now that I know how to use commands better!)

1) Hang art lower on both sides, forget vases

2) Hang art lower both sides, get small vases

3) Keep the stair step idea above, (art on the right window side
placed like stair steps, and place those stemmed vases, holding them
using putty on the shelf on the left side.

I think that looks very good. Personally I would stick with it and get your vases you love for the other side.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward keeping it too! The two pictures on one side seem to fill up the space better and that way I can get the vases.
