What's the latest on Netflix?

I'm enjoying The Queen. Almost to the last episode, and I don't want to watch because then it will be over!! Highly recommended.

Also, Lilies was excellent, but I had to have the subtitles on because I didn't get some of the dialogue.

Anyone else see anything good?

Another Crown fan. Hope they continue the series. Plus...I know I left a big piece of my heart in the Highlands and always watch the countryside,,,,to get my "fix". (Then, sometimes I am so disappointed when I read it was filmed in New Zealand.) Right now I'm watching Season 2 of Hinterland..filmed in Wales...Love that too.

As for "formal education", Those Scott's BEST export has always been the EDUCATED people who immigrated to our country. The Royals perhaps have a tutor/mentor education from very early on most often are in boarding school very young. My DS went to a local (in the Highlands High School, mostly farmers) where they were already speaking 3 and 4 languages....Latin being their 2nd (maybe 3rd if you count Gaelic) having begun in much lower grades. It was a good thing for him, as the experience was a huge challenge at age 15. He actually started school there in Kindergarten and 1st grade...

Our DIL was talking about The Queen this evening. She's really enjoying it. (This is QE II, right?) DIL was amazed at Elizabeth's lack of formal education. Remember when Princess Diana was newly engaged and we learned she'd never had formal schooling -- and that this was normal for 'ladies of quality'?

I'm old enough to remember the coronation -- and Princess Margaret's thwarted affair with Townsend.

I couldn't get it to work one night on Logitech Revue...everything else was working but Netflix...I pulled the plug on the Logitech and when it came back on Netflix was working...go figure...We don't even get movies at home anymore...just watch them thru the tv!

I just put McLeod's Daughters on my Instant Queue. I'd never heard of it--thanks for the tip, Jmc! Now if I can understand the Australian accents...... ;-) Growing up in NYC, I used to be good at understanding everybody's accents, but apparently I'm not as skilled as I once was. I found that Veronica Mars is available only on DVD. But if it ever streams, I'll check it out. Also plan to take a look at Doctor Who. I thought that was his name, too. LOL Jodi, I watched the first two episodes of Mad Men last year, and liked it a lot. I bought the first three seasons for my daughter as a Christmas gift, but then Netflix started streaming them. I told her I'd try to sell the unopened box sets.

I've just started watching 'After Life' with Ricky Gervais and I can't say enough good things about it. The 1st show was intriguing, the 2nd sad but funny ... I'm hooked. Even people who don't like Ricky Gervais had great reviews. Having recently lost my twin brother it was refreshing to watch a very real take on what happens to the people left behind.

Jasdip you might be able to find the Outlander books and paperbacks are available. The first in the series ' Outlander' was published in 1991, and the other novels every few years after that. She's currently writing her 9th in a 10 book series and readers are hoping that it will be out soon. There was talk of a movie years ago, Katherine Heigl was attached to it. The TV series was developed by STARZ and so far there have been 5 seasons. I think they're now filming the 6th. Netflix has 3 seasons listed on it's web site. Originally I read the novels as they were published and then re-read the entire series when they aired the first season. I find them complex and totally engrossing and I'm not a fan of the typical bodice-ripper nor science fiction. And even though time travel is the basis for the entire plot it somewhat fades into the background and becomes just another aspect of the characters' roles. As Alisande mentioned the author researches everything in great depth and I find the historical aspect to be very interesting. The books do not categorize easily, the author refers to them as "Big, Fat, Historical Fiction," like James Michener. They are rich with detail, character driven and addictive.

I agree with Terilyn...Gilmore Girls all the way, although I am enjoying The Crown, too.

I finished Crown last night. I thought the marriage issue was very sad. Good acting on everyone's part.

nanny98 -- Oh, I agree about Scotland's early and innovative educational laws. Canny Scots were willing to invest in creating an educated populace! My *male* Scots immigrant ancestors (early 1800's) found white collar jobs in America. They were only the sons of farmers, but they had beautiful penmanship, bookkeeping skills -- and they could reason.

It was the upper class English *girls* (as recently as Diana) who 'didn't need' a formal education. It was unladylike. They were required to know elaborate rules of etiquette, but, oh, you know...they were intended to be decorative and to *breed*.)
