Does Netflix often have these problems?

My daughter and son-in-law gave me a subscription to Netflix for Christmas, so I'm relatively new to it. I've received several movies by mail, and last week my SIL came over and hooked up my new TV and the Roku they also gave me for Christmas. Love the instant streaming!

However, tonight the streaming is unavailable, and so is the website. For a while, a message came up saying the mail service was disabled also, but that one didn't last long. I'm wondering how long the streaming blackout will last. I guess time will tell. I was hoping to spend some of tomorrow's winter storm hooking my latest rug project and watching/listening to a movie.

I've never had that happen and have been a member 2 years or so.

What kind of internet do you have?

I have satellite, and there is no way I could stream Netflix. I would be over my limit in a day - :(

Mike it is not your fault it is the locataion of where you live. Is your air carrying heavey high humidity this time of the year, if so that is your problem.? Jades grow on rocky hillsides in SW Africa. They love to be cramped between rocks, it reminds them of home. I have said this over and over through the years, does anyone here pay attention or am I just wasting time? I need to know. Check back through the archives for the past 15 years. There is no magic pill that will cure this. It is a cultural condition which you will need to learn, I know this is not what you want to hear, but I can not sugar this up so the information will go down easier. Norma

Jae- I have a question about your comment. My son lives in my home and connected his old laptop to the TV in my family room so that Netflix streams on a larger screen. You should be satisfied to know that both morally and legally I'm still an innocent since I haven't bothered to access any of it. If I sign up for a Netflix account and my DH wants to watch a show - is he also required to purchase his own subscription? I did log on to the Netflix user agreement page and did my best to read through all the restrictions, disclaimers, regulations etc. and I found this : ..........Permitted Use/Restrictions 2.1 Grant of Limited License. Netflix grants you (which, for purposes of this License Agreement, shall include members of your immediate household for whom you will be responsible hereunder and users of the Netflix ready device with which you are accessing the Netflix service and for whom you will be responsible hereunder) a non-exclusive, limited, personal and nontransferable license, subject to and conditioned on your compliance with the restrictions set forth in this License Agreement, to install and use the Software, in object code form only, provided to you by or on behalf of Netflix in connection with your use of the Netflix service. After reading this Permitted Use clause it appears that members of my son's immediate household are allowed to utilize the service. But perhaps I should just wait until I receive your blessing.

CindyMac, I have to retract my favorable comments re: Handmaids Tale as we just finished watching the 2nd season. Without giving anything away, some character's took a bizarre explicable turn which cheapened the story. And it was torture porn without any emotional relief. To lighten up, we are watching THE QUEER EYE on Netflix. Although some of the antics are a bit MUCH, the transformations are enjoyable.

@pamela Are you referring to the countertop? My formica came pre-attached to the countertop. So, yeah, a slab. They plonked the measured-at-the factory slabs onto the new cabinets. Not much expensive handiwork needed! And I got to parlay the money I saved into something more fun, like a Lazy Susan and pull-out shelves for my pans and mixing bowls. I believe formica "slabs" like mine come in a teak look. I have slate formica with white marble-ish design, thanks to Houzz posters. Everyone who's seen it is very impressed that formica can be that wowee. The big advantage of the new "slabs" as opposed to the old installations, is that you can order them with rounded edges or otherwise gussied-up. This is aesthetically nice (e.g. on an island), but it is also safer than the sharp, squared-off, edges of old-time installations.

I have DSL. The streaming has been seamless. A friend of mine and her family watch streaming movies together--all over the house, on various TVs and computers. Togetherness, high-tech style. :-)

The site was down for a while, very unusual, about 2 hours for me. But it's back up now.

That was the first time in 3 years, so I wouldn't consider them unreliable.

I think their turnaround time on mailed movies is quite remarkable.

I saw that it was down this afternoon, and it's the first time I've seen that happen since I've been using Netflix, which is more than 5 years.

So, no, it's not normal by any means.

We Roku a lot at our home and never had problems. The company I work for has a chip inside the Roku, so our entire design team got one for Christmas last year. Sweeeet! :-)

I couldn't get it to work one night on Logitech Revue...everything else was working but Netflix...I pulled the plug on the Logitech and when it came back on Netflix was working...go figure...We don't even get movies at home anymore...just watch them thru the tv!

I love being able to stream Netflix. DH loves nature shows, and I hunt for them and keep them in the queue for when there's nothing else to watch.

I agree their turnaround time is remarkable. So is the number of defective, unwatchable, DVDs. I believe ours come out of their Hartford distribution center. I've also had to wait many weeks for certain movies.
