Yes, that's Mandy Moore in both roles. She was a pop singer some years ago. Doing a good job in this show.

This is by far my very favorite show in many years. I love it and all the characters. They are all so good. The show was cut off but I did get she's doing gastric by- pass, but the situation between Randall and mom isn't good right now because she kept him from bio father. I still want to know how their dad died. SUPER show and writers.

Remember the scene in the bar where Jack is drinking and Miguel reminds him that he's lucky to have married such a wonderful woman? I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol figures into Jack's death. Or maybe not. Either way, I like him a lot. And everyone else in this show.

I think he has, at least, one kid. Weren't they the couple with a baby, or his wife was pregnant, and Jack and his wife (can't remember her name) said they were never having kids? It was in the 3rd episode or something.

Suzieque, it's unusual for me to stick with a show. I've liked other pilots, but then forget when they're on, or just drift away for other reasons. This one is unique.

I've noticed series having "fall finales." What's that about? I always thought series ran from fall to spring, and then took a hiatus in summer. I must be dating myself (again). :-)

The whole co-worker thing made go hmmm too. Remember in the office and the woman told Jack his wife should notice these things (can't remember, a collar or something) and fixed it? Miguel was, whatever, towards the woman but Jack seemed to be mildly intrigued? Oh, and an FYI, I am horrible at reading people so excuse my mumble jumble I speak.

Cookie, the TV writers and producers manipulate us, so I don't think your ability to read people (or lack thereof) figures into this. :-)

They do a lot of foreshadowing--which is why we're talking about these scenes from past episodes. Good writers of any genre know better than to include extraneous action that doesn't advance the plot, so yes--I agree that office scene had significance. Unfortunately.

Another fan here! I thought for sure we would find out how Jack dies tonight. Thought for sure he would get into an accident because of the drinking.

Here is one of my predictions though: Randall and Beth will adopt a baby boy and name hime William.

ETA: I also find that they seem to mumble and I don't quite get what they are saying.

I "watch" the show with my sister who lives a few states away. We text our reactions and thoughts back and forth during the show, so sometimes she catches something if I don't.

I can't believe I missed the finale but had a lot to do. :(

Rob , I might have gotten you started. I posted on here how much I liked it after the first episode. I got my daughter hooked and we text about it. I was very wrong tonight but I think that's how the writers set us up...that Kate felt responsible for her dad's death because she wanted him to make up with her mom. When he got into the truck drunk, I reached the conclusion that he died then. I thought that thru out the show like when he was drinking at the bar when she made the phone call not knowing he was feet away. Well written show. I love Randall.

I thought the same thing, Lily. I'm sure many did. I was afraid we wouldn't see Jack's character anymore after he died. The kids were teenagers, and it was unlikely the show would go back to their childhoods again. But introducing a much younger Jack has opened up new opportunities.

Another who was surprised at the final episode. But I still loved it.

Does anyone recall the brief funeral scene (Jack's funeral) several episodes back when we had a glimpse of Rebecca & the kids around the grave site? I can't remember how old they looked.

I disagree Alisande, my sister read that no one really dies on the show, because they can keep coming back in flashbacks. So, I believe that they will keep showing the kids at different ages. I also think that that can spin off on Randalls new found cousins, and bring William back through the memories they share with him.

The kids were 16 when Jack dies. Jack will continue to appear even when we find out how he dies.

So much potential. We still don't know how Jack dies then, since we expected a crash. But, Rebecca drove them home.

The final episode really made me angry. And this is the first time we've seen Jack outside of his "real time" life. This is the first time an episode didn't make me cry.

I still like this show, but am getting annoyed with the artifice of time switching and the "we fooled you" into anticipating the plot line and then having it go another way. Both are effective techniques when done well and sparingly, but they are used to the point of being intrusive in an otherwise compelling series.

I like the show, but last night's finale was a disappointment.

I think all characters will appear at any show in any decade including William. Just because William is dead doesn't mean there won't be flashbacks of him.I didn't want Jack to die but in flashbacks, the kids are young when he does die...maybe a few years older than what they were last night.

I agree with graywings. I like the show but I can usually predict many of the twists. Hope they don't overdo the methods they are using.

I do like the dad's character. I thought it was sweet last night when they showed their first meeting. Kevin ("The Manny") and Toby (?) (Kate's BF) bug me for some reason.

I know, I know.....it's unrealistic but I like shows with happy endings and I did not like seeing such a dark side to Jack.

Tacky, it's not so much that I mind Toby, it's just that I hate his hair! Just shave off that circle of hair already, it's distracting!

My daughter said Toby really isn't fat but wears a suit. Kate is though.

Lily, I heard that too. I really hope that Chrissy starts her weight loss journey. Like Melissa McCarthey, she can still stay "heavy" just not morbidly obese.

I have a nephew that lost over 150 pounds. He had to admit that he had an eating disorder. Not sure what Chrissy's situation is, but when you are that heavy, something equally emotionally heavy is weighing on you.

She was featured in a magazine spread. Although lovely, I wouldn't want her to become a role model for the obese. It should not be okay to be this much overweight.

I think I read some where that when the producer and writers started the show they figured it was going to be a one season show. They never thought it would be so popular and now they are scrambling to keep the main characters in it. Thus all the flashback scenes.

I read that too only I thought they had a five or six episode contract and it caught on like wildfire. Their promo was watched by more people ever except a Star War one. I think the writers and the actors are fabulous and now the writers have a few months to set the course of the show. I think the children in the flashbacks are wonderful too and the whole cast really likes each other off camera.

I think my favorite character is teen Kate. I love them all, but she's my favorite.

I thought sure we were going to see Jack die. They kept teasing us every time someone from the show was interviewed they would insinuate it was going to be the finale. I was very disappointed in the last show it was definitely my least favorite. I think she was very unfair to him because he has worked his rear off providing for that large family and allowing her to stay home and be the mom she wanted to be. Now she tells him she is unfulfilled! And it's his fault. Wrong. He is an excellent father and husband. The new drinking thing they suddenly threw in there is not a fit for his character.

This week's episode, the season finale, was my least favorite, too. I absolutely loved this series but am not as "into it" as I was. I don't like that they keep manipulating us (the potential "other man" for Kate, implying that Jack was going to get in a drunk driving accident and be killed, etc.). And it's less interesting and intriguing to me now.

I still like it a lot, but it's not an "Oh my gosh I can't wait until the next episode" show for me.

Eld, it was my least favorite because it was very dark... the poker scene, you just knew that wasn't going to end well! Then they threw in shots of the 3 kids (adults) at the very end when they hadn't been in at all the whole show - I know what they were showing but it just didn't seem to fit for me.

I'm glad there wasn't a cliff hanger I guess since we have to wait till next fall now!

I didn't like this show as well as the previous two, but I still think it's the best show on TV.
