Saw it on stage few years ago. Enjoyed it then.

The youth of our church did this last year and they did a fantastic job with the limited space and props that they had to work with.

I watched it. I thought it was great. I watched Jesus Christ Superstar live shortly after we moved to the US. This was 25 years ago and I was very surprised by the protesters outside the theater telling us to not go in and watch it.

I agree, alisande. I thought it was very well done. First class and no surprise, with the Broadway talent pool of performers and musicians to draw from. Including several Hamilton alumni in the cast.

I recorded it because we were out last night and I couldn't watch it until we got home. I wound up watching it into the wee hours and then was too energized to go to sleep. It was a late night for me.

I've seen first class productions of it - both on Broadway and in London - and top local ones too. I thought this one was as good as any. With one exception. While I thought the guy playing Judas was excellent, I still remember fondly seeing Carl Anderson playing that part, a couple of times. I liked his vocal interpretations better.

Both Tim Rice (lyricist) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (genius composer) were involved with the production and staging for this TV program.

I thought last night's presentation was fabulous. I still know all the words! One of my favorite shows. Enjoyed the urban setting.

I know all the words too! Comes from listening to the soundtracks too many times. I have three versions - the original recording (a studio album made when they were first unable to sell it as a stage production), a Broadway cast recording, and the movie soundtrack. Probably no piece of music I've listened to more over the decades. I mentioned to my wife - the album came out in 1970, which was when I first bought it. I didn't need to be reminded that was almost 50 years ago.

OMG - two very big thumbs up from me. I thought Brandon Victor Dixon (Judas) was the star of the show - but maybe its just the music that he gets to perform - because at first I thought Legend was just okay, but then his emotion packed performance took over for me and I liked him better. I think the Judas role is more flamboyant and maybe shows off the actor's talents in a different way than Jesus (as a character for an actor to play). I did like Alice Cooper a lot - I thought he was wonderful! I saw it on Broadway and although I was no kid at the time LOL I think I appreciated it more now. And thanks Elmer for reminding me how long ago it was on Broadway! Yikes I guess I was a bit of a 'kid' then.

Missed the beginning because Hubs and I were watching a baseball game, but I turned to it as soon as I could. Loved it! (And also got a big kick out of Chrissy Teigen's tweets during the whole thing.)

I liked the Jesus’ followers as they looked like regular people and not some finely coreographed ensemble ( they might have been but they looked very everyday)

Loved the crucifiction scene

Liked Mary Magdalene a lot

did not like that, except for John Legend and Alice C, I did not know any of the other performers, like a connection was missing

Didn't watch it - wanted to watch the PBS program which was wonderful. But I love the music - have had an LP from the 70's and now have it on iTunes.

What sorts of things was she tweeting, Lindsey? I imagine watching it was an emotional experience for her. He was so good, and the role has its physical demands.

It was wonderful. I've seen several versions too, and this may be my favorite. I listened to the early album a lot too. May still have it somewhere, if my brother doesn’t have it. I loved John Legend and Brandon Victor Dixon in their roles.

I thought it was very well done. The only performance of it I've ever seen was when it first hit the US, before Broadway. It was a very stripped-down version, and at the time it was considered very controversial.

Of all these "Live" productions this was the best so far IMHO. It was the only one I watched all the way through. I think DD#2 said it best. If they would find performers from Broadway for these productions they would be MUCH better over all. They keep choosing well known singers--who CAN'T ACT. The "unknown" best of Broadway would do both excellently; act and sing. Jesus Christ Superstar is an opera. Acting is required only through what you can interpret as you sing, so it was ahead of the game from the start. The actors did a great job. What I didn't appreciate was the "Tribute the Andrew...." for his birthday a few evenings earlier. I settled in for an hour of great music and got an hour advertisement and poor Q&A for Jesus Christ Superstar. DD#2 and I have watched the original as our Easter tradition for YEARS. It was nice to have a new version to enjoy.

Bossy, just fyi Sara also wrote the music and lyrics to the current hit Broadway musical "Waitress" . She is pretty talented, imo.

Judas was played by Brandon Victor Dixon, a Tony nominated Broadway Actor

Norm Lewis (Caiaphas) was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.

Ben Daniels (P. Pilot) actually does a lot of TV series.

I’ve definitely been living under a rock... though I’m not particularly interested on Broadway plays. Very hard to get tickets for national tours plus I live far from venues. Last one I saw (and thoroughly enjoyed was Rent)

No, but I still have the record album from the Broadway play back in the day. Mother and I went to see it back then.

Bossy, I guess its just that not 'everybody' is familiar with Broadway names as much as Hollywood names. Being a former NJ girl who is now a FL snowbird, I grew up on Saturday Broadway matinees and it is in my system. I still spend the summers in the north and get my Broadway fix and also with tour companies down here. If you can get to see Waitress, I think you'd enjoy it.

Mushcreek, I was wondering about the range of that part. Norm Lewis (so good!) hit a couple of bass notes, but I was thinking he was a baritone. Maybe that's because I'm a lot like my grandmother, a soprano who fell in love with a baritone. (He became my grandfather.) :-)

I thought the guy in the Caiaphas role was fine as an actor but it seemed like his voice was too high to hit his part's low notes with full resonance. He was stretching and didn't quite make it, they were below his range. I'm thinking in particular of the song "This Jesus Must Die" where the bass part is featured.

He must be a baritone then. They should have called Mushcreek. :-)

I recorded it and watched it today. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to watch it again. I don’t have the ear that many of you have. I just know what I like and what I don’t like.

I'm not sure how long it will be available but for now, the show can be watched from the NBC website.

i knew John Legend was a singer but couldn't tell you the title of a single song he sings. he has a really great voice! was kinda thinking i was gonna ve disappointed - ya know, nothing compares to original - but was so WRONG! was probably only about a minute into the overture when i was cranking up the volume... had to remember to turn it back DOWN when performance was over. no commercials would have made it great, but ya know how that goes.

i also pretty much knew/remembered all the words, too!
