That's the very reason why I have never watched American Idol. I could not tolerate Simon's open display of rudeness and hate to see such rudeness on TV, or anywhere for that matter. I figure there is enough rudeness in our society without watching it on TV and some thinking it is perfectly 'normal' to act that way.

I only caught bits and pieces of the show, and was really disappointed in her. One contestant was a sweet young man, kinda backwards acting, and totally tone deaf ... but she was laughing so very hard. I wonder sometimes if that's done deliberately for the cameras. Are they really that crass when the contestants are there?

Heard on the radio this morning that Elton John will take over for Simon for next year. Music wise, I think that's outstanding. I don't think anyone can doubt his capabilities there. But I think I remember that AI used him as a guest mentor/advisor one year, and he was 100% positive about every single performer. So I do wonder whether he's too nice, will he be able to tell them specific areas where they need to improve.

I was so disappointed in Mary Kay Blige last night, she behaved so badly. I agree that some of the people have zero business being there but such rudeness is wrong and is sending a horrible message to others. She owes everyone an apology. And tho I really appreciate, and usually agree with Simon, he is often guilty of the same, tho not as immature as Mary Kay was on last night's show.

Yea, AI judges laugh at some of the contestants; that's how the show gets its high ratings for the tryout shows. It does make me feel bad for some of them. But there are some contestants who take this in stride and in fact are there to be as bad as they can be so they can win some camera time. (Remember William Hung, the guy who massacred "She Bangs" during Season 3? Do you know the celebrity he still accrues out of that? Crazy!)

But the producers really needed to rope this chick in. She should have stood up and walked out for a breather, as Simon did during the show.

Even though Blige is considered one of the top singers today, it's too bad that she's forgotten where she comes from and that not too long ago she was a drug abuser and an alcohol abuser.

But people buy her CDs, she has a personal staff, driver, whatever--so I guess that superstar life erases all her personal flaws and her compassion.

Judge Kara DioGuardi, at least, tried to cover up Blige's laughing.

The positive note: Blige was only a "guest" host for the Atlanta auditions.

This is all prerecorded I believe and the producers have really turned what could have been a good talent show into something bordering on the absurd IMHO

I don't get why everyone in the "biz" likes Mary J. Blige so much. I personally can't stand her singing. She can't carry a tune. I'll be glad when her 15 minutes is over.

I thought she was so terrible rude!!! I would hate to be standing there singing and have someone laughing at me like that. Granted, there are a lot of these people that shouldn't be there to begin with but, apparently, they think they have some talent. Constructive criticism and opinions are one thing but to just double up laughing is not acceptable in my opinion.

I love Elton John and think he would be a great replacement for Simon. I do have to say that Simon has really grown on me and I will miss him!!!

that kind of stuff is why I don't start watching until they narrow it down to about 30 people in Hollywood. Got tired of the producers passing people through just to laugh at them...just mean.

She didn't come across as a very nice person. I was surprised, though, about Posh spice...can't remember her real name. But, she seemed like a decent person, very nice to those who were terrible.

It happened to be on while I was working on some things so I heard parts of it. I've got a few thoughts:

When someone is going for an alleged talent competition, shouldn't they have some talent? Why aren't they screened a bit before that? Many of these people are going on there just to get on the pre-show and get some sympathy. What's the saying, don't cry for me Argentina?

Secondly, this is NOT a talent competition. It's a popularity contest. Well proven over and over again. William Hung, (was that his name?) was popular certainly not talented. But then again, how many can honestly say Bob Dylan is talented in singing? He can write, but with his voice, *I* should go into show business!! Remember Sanjaya Malekai (sp?) Not a great singer but he knocked out many better singers by what? POPULARITY! Simon Cowell even felt so threatened that he said if Sanjaya won, he'd quit the show.

Cowell is the "villain" on the show and every show like this needs a villain. People love to hate. There's no question about that. In many forums I'm the one people love to hate! LOL So, not unlike Lex Luthor, Catwoman, Mr. Moriarty, Mr. Metaxa or the others, people have a need to hate. It makes many people happy to hate.

The one guy who was so upset that he had to wait and got that Kara? gal so upset was interesting. I'm surprised nobody else saw a resemblance to Christopher Reeve, especially with the glasses. But she went nuts. And Cowell even changed his mind and voted for him! Perhaps to irritate the other judge??

Lastly, there's times people need to be blunt. Some people need to be told things they don't want to hear. Maybe it's not "nice" but pulling a bandage off a wound can't always be "nice".

Maybe if they had public floggings for the losers, fewer people would try to get in there just to get their 30 seconds of "fame"? :)

Sometimes, if there's nothing else on, I'll watch the last 1/2 dozen episodes of Idol. So often good people get booted, ala Jennifer Hudson. But that's part of the show. I do think many people try to vote out the good people. There's been times I actually voted... just to try to bump someone I didn't like, and to promote someone I felt sorry for and/or liked.

I've always like Mary J. Blige, but reading this makes me sad - I didn't see all of last night's show. I've followed her since about 1992, so I know about the ups and downs, and it's too bad to think she's become so conceited.

I did catch "Pants on the Ground", and thought it was hysterical! :-) Did you see the story on Yahoo about the guy? Very cool!

Mary J. Blige was rude and so was the show. Wasn't the backwards hillbilly guy the one they kept making the crashing sounds for? He was outside of his league. I found that part to be incredibly offensive.

The hillbilly girl will probably be one of the first ones dropped in Hollywood. At least the show allowed her to experience a little culture.

Do I get the feeling that there aren't many around here who worship "Idol"s?
