Larry, Hooray for the pepper jelly, and sorry to hear about the hard frost. October is my favorite month too, technically tied with April, because both are so mild, feature pretty marvelous weather and usually have at least adequate rainfall. Of course, April features late freezes and frosts and October features early ones, but whatcha gonna do about it? Such is life in the great outdoors. I have overwintered ornamental sweet potato tubers inside the house in a plastic basket placed on the floor of my unheated pantry (it is underneath the staircase in the center of the house). I've also planted them in potting soil and kept them alive as house plants, and have overwintered them as dry tubers in the tornado shelter too. If you grow them inside as houseplants, you can take tons of cuttings in the spring and root them for oodles of new plants. I do always feel sad on the morning after the first hard killing freeze, but as you so aptly pointed out, there is a time to be born and a time to die. It always amazes me how quickly I see winter weeds starting to sprout a few days after the first killing freeze. They are a reminder that the next growing season already is gearing up already. We haven't even had a really hard freeze here yet, but the false garlic and henbit have spouted although the henbit remains very tiny and low to the ground. While many people who live here near me hate henbit and consider it one of the worst winter/early spring weeds, I love it simply because it is growing and blooming when so little else is showing green growth or blooms. In a good year, the henbit gets large enough to start blooming on warm days in late December or early January, and the bees and butterflies love it. One way I fight the sadness of seeing everything freeze-killed or frost-damaged is to start making plans for next year! Dawn

Glad you're ok, how scary to have a tornado so close. Alex and I got woken by pounding rain, thunder and sirens going off in our town. On and off they went, the rain and wind would ease up and then it'd start again. Finally went to bed and got woke up again around 3 am. Lauren slept through the whole thing. Lot of wind damage here and in nearby cities. I'm so tired but had to wash some scrubs for work tomorrow, otherwise I'd be in bed already. I hope everyone else is ok. Lot of people died here and surrounding states.

Thanks everyone. Patti you may be right about the cream vs the white. I am a pale-skinned, freckled redhead and even though i do have a lot of white blouses, I really do not look good in white. And I love Steinmart! I think I will stop in there tomorrow and also there is a TJMAXX in the same shopping center. I am 60 yrs old, tall, but 30 pounds overweight (recently lost 35, 30 more to go) and busty, I was thinking a print might make me look fatter. I have a cute new top that is a leopard print, but wondered if it would be too much! My DD tells me I dress too much like an old lady, well I am one. Maybe I will pick up a couple tops and have a pre-party fashion show for DH and DD. I appreciate the great ideas!

Beautiful pic and yes I saw it on face book and was so surprised that you didn't take the back of your head or one side or upside down. It's a wonderful picture. You look great Kat but that chemo weight is a booger to get off. I'm still struggling with it.

Two great minds are thinking alike. I agree with Patti, how do we KNOW this is a picture of the real Kat. LOL I mean, how can someone with a nickname like Brat Kat, not only look so great, but also have a gorgeous smile. She doesn't even have horns coming out of her head or warts on her nose! LOL

Wedding was for the son of a girl I went all through
school with, DH works for her hubby, THEY went to college
togethter, and Kathy and Bert set US up on a blind
date! lol AND we got to sit at one of the
family tables so we were the 3rd table to get food, not
the 25th table! yea! lol

I posted two (bad) pictures of the beautiful ceiling
in this ballroom on the picture of the day thread.

I can do a little of that type of stuff but I think you really want a quality job so you can keep that picture. I am on another forum that has a great area where professionals will do things like that for you for free, just ask. Here is the link there.

they do amazing work and are so gracious to help out the way they do. It would probably be best to give them a full size copy of the picture so you can have it in the highest resolution.
